drewmc34 Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 Hi all, I am trying to take the old man fishing tomorrow. I typically fish the upper potomac but with the recent weather it is too muddy and high for my comfort currently, so instead I was thinking of going out of pohick or occoquan on the tidal potomac. But I just wasn't sure how the recent rains have affected the tidal potomac. Did it muddy up the tidal as well? Just don't want to drive down there just to see chocolate milk. Any info is appreciated drew Quote

Traveler2586 Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 What Traveler said in his PM X2. Now that's what I call blind faith When we have heavy rains that muddy up the river, and this goes for any river, you can work the creeks and small bays and back waters like Penrods Cove at the W.W. Bridge. Look for areas off the main channel where the water is cleaner IMHO is the secret. Look for slack water and work the weed edges where a shallow shelf drops into deep water; some place where the bass can make a quick transition. I also recommend Ken Penrod's books on fishing the Potomac, they're like having a fishing guide with you whenever you want. Quote
drewmc34 Posted June 17, 2013 Author Posted June 17, 2013 Thanks for the advice, we ended up going out of occoquan. Occuquan was pretty stained but we were able to find some clearer water in the back of some creeks dumping into belmont bay. Ended up with 9. The old man beat me 5-4! I have Penrods book, i didn't even think to look at at for tidal potomac advice. thanks again Quote
