Looking to get a new setup for crankbait's, jig's and flipping and pitching. Not all on the same rod of course but rod's for those seperate situations. What do you guy's think about the BSP Carbonlite rod's? I have one now and I love it and use it for Tex Rig's. What length and action would you use for the new rod's? Also what reel's and ratios? Was looking at Revo S, Revo SX, and the PQ.

I really like the Carbonlite rods (especially the Mico guide version) but would not own the reels.  I know people that work for Bass Pro and they have informed me the newer Carbonlite reels have some issues.  They say the Pro Qualifiers are a better choice for reels.

I would reccomend a 7' or 7'6" MH for jigs and flipping and pitching.  For crankbaits I would say the Crankin Stick in a 7' or 7'6" MH would be a better choice since the Carbonlite isn't really made for crankbaits.

Yeah I have a micro guide BPS Carbonlite and I love it, One of my favorite rod's. I also have the Carbonlite reel but I love it as well no issues. But it's also one of the original's so maybe that has something to do with it. I was thinking about the Revo SX for my flipping and pitching rod since it's got alot of drag power and can horse em out. I have a Revo S on a Veritas Heavy action rod with braid on it right now. Just wanting to get another set up or two. Preciate the feedback!

I think the Carbonlites are a solid rod. A lot of the specs depend on the weights of the lures you will be throwing and how heavy the cover will be fishing.

For crankbaits and other treble hook lures I like a M/M or MH/M rod. My rod is 6'9 MH/M which I use primarily for squarebills and lipless cranks. I have a 6:1 reel on it so I can burn the cranks while still slowing down when I need to. Anything 6'6 - 7' should be fine.

For jigs, flipping and pitching I would look for something at the very least 7' MH/F. Depending on where and in what you are throwing your lure you may want a heavy power rod.

If you didn't know, BPS sells a PQ/Carbonlite combo that is a pretty solid deal.

Yeah I've been scanning the BPS site for combo's. I am looking at the Revo SX/Carbonlite combo they have for flipping and pitching. Maybe a 7'6 MH since I wont be fishing anything here in NC like they would have to down in say FL. I was looking at the Crankin Stick with a Pro Q reel for my crankbait app. Thank's for the info guy's!

I use the PQ 7.1.1 as a flipping and pitching reel on a 7'6" H/F rod.  I have no issues with the drag power of the PQ, nothing upgraded or anything.  It does a good job with no issues, I also use a Citica G7 as my frogging rod and I throw it into very heavy stuff.  I haven't ever noticed an issue of the drag slipping, etc....it might be a different story I guess if I was in Florida.  The drag is more than sufficient for my uses.

Great combo.  Are you going to purchase them as a combo or seperately? If seperate I'd also suggest looking @ the *** series of rods.  I've recently also become enamored with the lews bb1 series of reels.  The yadvertise as being very easy to cast far.  I thought it was marketing mumbo jumbo until I used one.  Even packed in grease it casts like a champ and is very smooth.  I just picked up 2 at that auction site, one for less than a hundred the other for just over.

For the jigs will you be pitching and flipping them or using them for bottom contact?  I tend to prefer 7ish foot rods for most things, but if I'm fishing along the bottom I like something a bit longer.  The extra length really helps get extra distance.

My first outfit ever was a PQ/Carbonlite combo.  Still my 2nd favorite rod in that hundred dollar pricepoint.  I believe the PQ is also made at the same place that makes the lews and abu garcia reels.

I am newer to baitcasters so the baitcaster reel I have is the bass pro shops pro quailfier and so far it has been a amazing reel for the price the reviews on it do not lie.

I do have it on a BPS Carbonlite rod as well and the rod is pretty awesome, one of the few rods I will spend money on actually. The rod is sensitive and has a really stop back bone.

Yeah I honestly dont need a $200 rod, The Carbonlite's are just fine with me. Great rod, Great price. I'm probably gonna go 7'6 M/H or H Carbonlite with a Revo S or Revo SX for my flipping pitching. Then the crankin stick in 7' M/H with a PQ reel. Then I'm shooting for an *** Rod. Thank's for all the info and feedback guy's!

not entirely true, while i assume u are talking about the current black carbonlite reels (wich i hear are junk, never used one) the previous gold one's are HIGHLY sought after. they are still bringing the same price that they were new. Those are great reels.

also to the OP they do make a moderate action rod in the carbonlite lineup that would be great for cranks if u are trying to stay with the same rod.

Seriously doubt anyone "needs" a $200 rod.....until they actually fish one.  Only $200-$300 rods I have were purchase used or on closeout for $175 or less...usually a lot less.  Love my Falcon Experts.  A friend just started using $450 and above rods.  Says he is blown away by how much better the performance is with his new 'babies'.  Makes it awful hard to go back.

Unfortunately I will never see the day I can spend that kind of money.  One can always dream, tho.  :teeth3:

I've made myself not spend more than $100 on a rod right now. I've only paid retail once so that helps too. I want to try a carbonlite, but I'm happy with my 13 omens for now. Good luck on your search

Been fishing with Carbonlite rods (spinning and baitcasters) for three years now and love um.  You can't beat them for the money. They are $20 off right now in the store and internet until tomorrow (the 16th) and will remain $20 off via the internet purchase until the 22d of June.

that first sentence sounds off. lol even if you actually fish with a 200 buck rod, you still dont need one. guy i fish with has 3 steez rods, and just picked up the new black and purple steez, great setup but unless your fishing opens and cashing checks, I see no way to honestly justify unless you want, lol I can justify wants :)  anyway sorry to go OT< carbonlite rods are great, old orange carbonlite reels are the bomb too, the black ones are crap on a reel seat

carbonlite rods are fine. the johnny morris carbonlite reels, however, i would HIGHLY recommend you only buy one in person after handling it and making sure you get a good one. i have owned three and have personally gone through dozens of NIB JM CLs looking for a smooth one and have yet to find one. on the other hand, the first-generation carbonlites (the gold ones) were awesome for the price and so are the pro qualifiers.

hah, I got my gold carbon lite rod at the ATL bps on clearence for 50 bucks, used with boat rash right now, on ebay there is one going with bids for over 70.00 great reel

I was looking on the BPS site and was gonna order the Carbonlite/ PQ combo in 7'6 MH but they do not have them in stock. They do have the 7'6 H XF action in stock though. I was gonna use this as a jig, flipping, pitching, swimbait rod. These are all new applications for me so would that rod be any good for those apps? Thanks!

Can't say about the H/XF, but I have the 7'6" MH/F carbonlite and it works great for everything you mentioned. I got the PQ combo and its a great setup.

7.1:1 gear ratio. I use it for flipping/pitching texas rigged plastics and jigs. Haven't used it for swimbaits but I think it would work well for that.

Well I'm not gonna be fishing anything like they would see down in Florida, but there are some lilly pad's grass and structure that I would be fishing. I was gonna be using soft swimbait's on a weighted hook like a Gambler Big EZ as well as jig's and f/p. You think a Heavy action would be a little much for that?
