TC235 <*))))>< Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Hey everyone of bassresource i was curious of your opinions on attacking this lake in Blackstone,MA. I've already pulled out some nice fish, but just not the big one im looking for. It's mostly muckish/sand with some hard bottom an sand/gravel in the shallowest parts. Water is a lightly stainted green color(only in summer, winter time the water is gin clear) you can see the bottom at evey point of the lake. Submergent weeds are just about eveywhere, but are thick overall all around in the summer. Except where the weeds get the heaviest in the general area marked by the green circle. Theres no offshore cover except for maybe 2-5 peices and really no depth changes for the most part then what you see. Other than what's marked on the picture theres just overhanging trees at certain parts all around. If anymore details are needed please ask away. Anywho how would you approach this lake for trophy bass? Any advice to lures, conditions, etc would be much appreciated. THANKS BASS RESOURCE![ Quote
POPRG Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Pads, docks weed beds..i think you allready answered your question! BASS SEEK OUT COVER! Either to ambush or hide, bass need structure to survive! You may catch some cruisers here and there, but concentrate on the heavy cover areas if its a small lake,or any lake for that matter. Pads & frogs, dragging t-rigged plastics through weedbeds, jigging the edges..skip under the docks if you have the opportunity without a doubt! So many choices my friend..whats the main forage on this lake? How deep is it? Quote
TC235 <*))))>< Posted June 14, 2013 Author Posted June 14, 2013 That's the problem i've hit all those marked areas and can't seem to find anything bigger than 6lbs and i know theres bigger for a fact. The lake is only 5-6ft deep and is around 80 acres. Food source contains bluegill, pumpkinseed, perch, alewifes, blueback herring, golden shinners and possible a couple more. No idea about crawfish etc. Thanks! Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted June 14, 2013 Super User Posted June 14, 2013 Are you fishing from a boat or from shore? Probe any visible cover. Crawl it through any grass/weedline edges you can find. Try a Yum "Mitee Bug" on a 1/8 oz. or 1/4 oz. weighted swimbait hook. Then you have ask yourself if, in fact, there are any "big" bass residing there. If you know there are, then use large plastics, jigs or weighted swimbaits and keep probing what has been suggested. Sooner or later you'll connect. With all this rain we've been having, I'd suggest fishing close to the shoreline as possible. Especially if there is any overhanging brush. Good Luck! Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted June 14, 2013 Super User Posted June 14, 2013 Fish any cover, weed edge, depth change along areas where the bottom changes between hard/soft. Quote

TC235 <*))))>< Posted June 14, 2013 Author Posted June 14, 2013 Thanks everyone for the responses so far. I do fish from aboat so i have acess to the entire body of water. I've thrown every big bait lure i got confidence in and hit the 8lb mark. I know theres bigger lurking since my friends dad caught a 9-11lb and a 13lb was in the local newspaper from a random angler a couple years ago. The only two things i really haven't tried is sticking with a big swimbait or fishing at night.... Maybe one of two is the right ticket. I swear though i think the bigger bass over 6lb just cruise in areas with little to no cover/structure. I spot BIG fish cruising around, but they spot me a half a mile away and by the time i even get a good look they just take off. So then i started fan casting from a ways away on other days and won't even get a sniff???? The lake has enough pressure to when theres atleast a couple people who can fish the weekdays and then you'll get atleast your 2-5 weekend warriors on sat/sun. Again thanks everyone for the responses TIGHT LINES BASS RESOURCE Quote

fishking247 Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 keep doing what you're doing. if you caught 6-8lbers the big girls will be around. i fish a lake with tons of pressure i took an 8 and a low 9 this yr on big spooks fishing around the golden shiner schools. good luck Quote
Super User Marty Posted June 14, 2013 Super User Posted June 14, 2013 For what it's worth, the best big fish water for me is a 30-acre pond no deeper than 10'. It has extensive filamentous algae mats over much of the pond in the warmer part of the season and loads of coontail below the surface. Quote
Nashua Nev Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 i agree with fishing it at night. full moon or the night before, if you get lucky rain will be in the very near forcast of the full moon. Big black broken tail jitterbug ( 3 1/2 - 5 inch one ) I have my best luck from 10 pm - 1:30 am If that doesn't get you what you want , try a bigger double colorado blade black spinner , work it every where. work it slow , med and fast Quote
