Bassfisherman94 Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 Looking for a Big bulky shallow running crankbait thats not extremely expensive, looking at about 1' to 3' diving depth, any ideas? Quote
Super User Sam Posted June 21, 2010 Super User Posted June 21, 2010 As stated above plus Bandit, Lucky Craft or any other shallow running crank. Go with sexy shad, blue with chartreuse back or all chartreuse. Change out back hook to one of same size with a feather. Quote
Super User Sam Posted June 21, 2010 Super User Posted June 21, 2010 Watching NCIS and goofed. Make that chartreuse with a blue back. Quote
Beastie Bass Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 Check out the Rapala DT-1! My local GM had these on sale for $4.99, it's definetely big and bulky. They are balsa (no rattles) and definetely the shallowest crank I've ever used. Great for waking. Quote
jdw174 Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 Don't know how big and bulky you want to go, but a Bomber Square A is a dandy shallow water crank. Quote
Gangley Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 Bomber Model B. Its balsa, large, and runs shallow. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted June 21, 2010 Super User Posted June 21, 2010 Maybe a Mann's 1-minus or Baby 1-minus? X2 plus a Normans fat boy. Quote
NateFollmer Posted June 21, 2010 Posted June 21, 2010 x2 on the Bombers. I like the balsa ones as well. Wood always seems to have a little bit of a different action than plastic, almost like it's more natural. Although, you can't do wrong with the Sexy Shad either. I have caught fish on that thing when it was only 2 feet beside me. It's a great multi-species imitator too (bluegill and multiple shads). Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted June 21, 2010 Super User Posted June 21, 2010 Timber Tigers. A DC 8 gets about 4 feet down on 17 lb line and you have to work to get it stuck. It is just amazing how you can throw this bait into gnarly stuff and it comes back much more often than not. Lots of different colors are available. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted June 21, 2010 Super User Posted June 21, 2010 rapala DT Fat 01's are freakin huge crankbaits. biggest ones i have in my box. despite their name they don't dive to one foot but more like wake the surface. they have a huge roll to them and definitely call up some fish. the DT Fat 03 is an average sized crankbait, about the size of other DT's but much much more round bodied. it dives to about 3 feet as advertised. it rattles, which i like (DT 01 doesn't rattle). i have one DT Fat 03 and it is without a doubt my favorite crankbait i own. Super User ww2farmer Posted June 22, 2010 Super User Posted June 22, 2010 Good fat bodied, shallow running cranks under $5: Manns C-4 Norman Fat Boy Strike King Series 4S I use all of them with alot of success, the Fat boy and C-4 have pretty wide wobbles, the SK is a bit tighter. All 3 come through cover great, all also need new hooks right out of the pack though IMHO. Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted June 22, 2010 Super User Posted June 22, 2010 The Manns original 1-minus is a monster shallow crank with a really wide wobble Quote
Gangley Posted June 23, 2010 Posted June 23, 2010 Forgot to mention the Rapala DTFAT. It's large, balsa, has a wide wobble, and did I say large? dsavedra, I havent tried the DT03, does it move similar to the DTFAT? Quote
