maleko Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Lets see some of your gear bags, storage idea's or your own tricks and tips. I fish from shore ( fresh water ) 99% of the time. I use a back pack since i do alot of walking into where i fish. Use Plano storage for my tackle and im sick of all the hooks and lures getting tangled. How do you store your gear? How much stuff do you carry? Lets see some pics of your bags / storage etc. I carry 3 full Plano cases of lures etc. 2-3 fishing poles Big Zip lock bag full of rubber worms etc. First aid kit rain coat flashlight food / water Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted June 13, 2013 Super User Posted June 13, 2013 If you are walking a lot, a back pack is the way to go. Just get a bigger back pack. I like Jansports because they have a lifetime guarantee if you tear one up, which I have. Quote
Revival Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 I only fish from shore and i use a Quiksilver backpack. It has 3 main compartments and 2 water bottle holders on the sides which is important to me. At one point I was carrying 3 tackle plano cases but i now i only carry 1. Took some time to find the perfect case that would fit everything i need but i finally did. This is how i carry my stuff:Big compartment:- Plano box with lures/plastics- Long sleeve shirtMedium compartment:- Small Plano box with hooks/weights- Small Plano box with crankbaits- Scale- Pliers- Towel- Flashlight- 2 Knives (1 fixed/1 folding) - Fishing license/Park passSmall compartment- EWG hooks in original packaging in a plastic bag- Keys- Money clipI have extra line in one of the bottle holders and always have a bottle of gatorade/water in the other.Another thing I have which i find is important is a fingernail clipper on a lanyard that i have connected to the top strap of my backpack. When i put my backpack down to change lures, its right there and its very convenient. Quote
Super User Marty Posted June 13, 2013 Super User Posted June 13, 2013 I've always preferred a shoulder bag. While I'm holding a fish the shoulder bag offers one-hand access to whatever I need, be it pliers, scale, tape measure or whatever. I am a person who moves around a lot and never stays long in one spot (unless it's producing), so with a backpack it would be too much taking off and putting back on. On the other hand, if I were one to stay in each spot a long time, then I think a backpack would be much more suitable. Quote
buzzfrog Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 i bit big, but a bps coangler bag is perfect for shore fishing and me, room for 5x 3700s and tons of pockets etc.. though mine is loaded, I use it boat and shore, great bag Quote
nascar2428 Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 It's a backpack for me. Large compartment has one plano spinnerbait box and a smaller box with cranks and jigs. Second compartment consists of a small soft sided cooler which contains 25 packs of plastic. My raincoat and three pocket sized planos for my hooks and terminal tackle. four additional pockets contain sunscreen, mosquito spray, first aid kit, tools and extra line. Water bottle in side carrier and my scents go in the outside gym bag thing. Two rods sometimes three and depending where I am going I will strap on a folding chair. Quote
OK Bass Hunter Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 I use the Falcon V12 Bag. They were discontinued awhile back and I love it. Quote
buzzfrog Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 In my bag, I carry a large Plano crank bait box. A medium crab bait box and use that one fo frogs. Then I carry a normal 3700 for all top water. And in that one a put the essential spinner/buzz baits needed. Then on the tm2 big side pockets. I carry the FTO terminal tackle box and my jig box. The one that has the flipping up compartments Quote
livetofish28 Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 I have a spiderwire backpack that I use to bank fish. It has tons of pockets and 2 big main pockets one that is designed for Plano boxes. It works exceptionally well. Quote
SwampLife Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Check the h20 express back pack tackle bag from academy I bought one to take in the boat because I'm a back of the boat fisher and it seemed I can fit the most stuff in it but still be organized. And it will not take to much space because its tall not wide Comes with 4 360 Plano boxes.. A removable cooler on the bottom that I use to store plastics.. 2 Spots for pliers.. A big opening at the top, I store my spinner bait binder and 2 more 360 boxes.. A hard sunglasses case attached and a few more pockets.. It even comes with 2 rod holders on each side when walking.. You have to unzip each side and they pull out out.. I never used them but if you move a lot it seems logical..I never attach my cooler with my plastics in it, it has a handle i just hold it until I get in the boat and set it under my lean seat on back of the boat. Look it up its only 50 bucks! one of the cheapest and roomiest book sacks I found.. Quote

Super User Master Bait'r Posted October 4, 2013 Super User Posted October 4, 2013 I have used a sling pack for hiking for years and I love it. You can access it without taking it off and you can hold a d**n good amount of gear too. Just decide what your go-to baits will be for the day and roll with the punches. Quote
einscodek Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 I wear 2 fanny bags and a fly fishing tackle box on my waist for quick access and changes. Works well on boat or when I'm on shore or hitting some waterway I drive by and am curious about.. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted October 4, 2013 Super User Posted October 4, 2013 I use a large creel bag, it has two side pockets, one clip and two rings on the front to hang items on. I can wedge 4 3600 thin boxes in it but use 2. It's used for bank fishing so I minimize and carry one lighter rod Quote

Though they are priced at $49 they go on sale a few times a year for $29 (I bet they will be on sale for Black Friday). I bought mine for $29 but think it would still be a great deal at full price. I do 100 percent of my fishing from the bank and it allows me to carry more tackle then I could ever need. I use the top two pockets for plastic worms and spinnerbaits, the main tackle pocket to store the plastic tackle boxes and the bottom pocket to store pliers and scent bottles. I use the cooler to store my rain jacket but I have some friends that use it to store their cast nets. Definitely a versatile backpack that has made fishing from the bank much easier. Also, while I don't use the rod holders, I did try them out one time and they work as advertised. Quote
Bassfink86 Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 after reading all the replies on here, I guess what I carry would seem like over kill to all of you, but here it goes....I carry a Camelbak BFM, its one of the biggest ones they make and it is very expensive($275+) but I got mine issued to me, anyway this thing is massive and can carry a ton of gear depending on how you configure it here's my load out: 2 3600 plano boxes 2 thin 3700 boxes 1 3500 tackle system(the little one from bps with 5 350 cases in a bag) 1 large zippered toiletry bag for soft plastics (this thing can hold a ton of plastics) rain jacket and then all the extras: pliers, line, etc. since its a camelback I don't have to carry water bottles, just fill up the bladder and you good to go I know I carry more than I should but I don't mind the pack is comfortable and im used to carry it, is this setup for everyone? No. but I just wanted to let you guys know what I carry. Good luck. Quote

Loop_Dad Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 I fish from bank and boat. My current system is like this... When I fish from boat I use BPS's tackle bag. I was looking for good bank fishing backpack for while, but I couldn't find any. I was looking for something with flat even bottom, so that it stands itself, and with a deep side pocket to put extra rod. I ended up buying a military style back pack. It has lots of straps around where you can add-on things. I attached a 1ft piece of PVC pipe to the side of my backpack, so that I can carry an extra rod and I can switch rods quickly. BPS bag is a lot bigger than my backpack. I had to re-organize things so that I can quickly transfer from one bag to the other. I trimmed down to 3x large plano box and one small one. It is tight, but I managed to put my essentials. So when I am switching from boat bag to backpack, I move 4 plan boxes, move the contents of one of the side pocket (tools etc) and I am done. Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted October 7, 2013 Super User Posted October 7, 2013 Freshwater it's a few lures in my pocket and 1 rod, pliers in my belt. Inshore I use a fanny pack and 1 rod, the pack holds about 6 janns lure boxes and a compartment for swivels and leaders. I use a lure box for spoons, bucktails, hard jerks, top water, storm shad, jigging spoons and soft plastics go in my pocket along with a few extra jig heads in the pack. Pliers in a sheath on the strap of the fanny and a flashlight around my neck. I have way more stuff with me than I actually need for any one outing. I keep lots of backups in my car organized and replenish my lures when needed. Quote
thehooligan Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 I use a jansport labtop bag. The labtop slot holds one large plano box perfectly. Front top pocket holds extra line, weights, and hooks. Side pockets hold license, scale, pliers, boca grip, tape measure, thermometer. and nail clippers. The big pocket hold bags of plastics and any extra smaller plano boxes i want to bring. Very comfortable bag with the wide shoulder straps. Love this bag, was $100 at office depot, my bro worked there for a short time and got it on sale and used his discount and got it for $9 Quote
