das028 Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 I realize there might not be such a thing as a "do all" rig, but the extra money I do have is being focused on a new optic for a Win 94 I just got. Gotta be ready by deer season. Anyways, I am looking for a new rod. I figured I can scrape enough pennies together for that. I currently use a Pfluger medium action spinning reel with a ugly stick light rod, 6ft medium action. I love the reel put I need a rod thats more stiff. Like I said before, this set up will be likely the only rig a use for at least the rest of the summer, so i need some suggestions on what you guys have experience with. I really havent been paying attention to the latest and greatest gear, so any help would be appreciated. I'd like something 6'6'' to 7 foot in medium or medium/heavy action. My budget tops out at $100, but any money saved would more money towards my rifle. I use soft plastic worms, lizards, jerks baits most of the time. I like to fish Jigs too. Ocasionally i'll throw a buzz bait or a spinner out from time to time. Quote
Arv Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Powell Diesel spinning rod should do well. It'll run you about 60-70 bucks. If you're fishing ponds a M/F rod should be perfect. Quote
5dollarsplash Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Personal opinion of course, but I'd look at a Abu Veritas MH, 7' if your comfortable with it. Length I think has a lot to do with personal preferance. Longer goes further, yes, but only if it's in a controlled fashion. I prefer longer, but I also use 8' muskie rods on occasion and I'm 6'2" myself, so a light 7' doesn't seem like much. I think the Veritas is a nice sensitive rod and with the MH has enough backbone for your applications. Quote
Super User MCS Posted June 13, 2013 Super User Posted June 13, 2013 It is at the top of your budget, the BPS Carbonlite is well worth it. I have a 6'6" MH and use is for all my plastics and ocasionally a top water or jerkbait. Super light with plenty of backbone and feel to it. Quote

Super User lmbfisherman Posted June 13, 2013 Super User Posted June 13, 2013 Although I can't comment on the *** *** and it does get awesome reviews, but I second the Elite Tech, freaking fantastic rod (own M/XF spinning and M/F Casting). They both are sensitive and fish better than a couple of other brands that I own or owned between the 150-200 mark. Especially for the price I can get them regularly at 99.99. Ever since I bought my first one...they have quickly become one of my favorite rods. Just to give you perspective, I also own Cumaras and Loomis GLX rods...not saying they are better, just that they are just a pleasure to fish with as part of my arsenal. I am slowly selling off my other brands and replacing them with more Elite techs/Aetos. Quote

Great rod but I was stunned by the ***'s for the price. They are even better than the Fenwick. If you get a chance, try one out. Quote

May give it a try in the future, but I'm pretty happy with the brands/make I am fishing now. My next purchase will be a reels...1 more stradic (2500) and 1 CH50E. Quote

NWBasslover Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 If you want a good spinning rod for that kind of money that needs to last try out a Shimano Clarius, around $70 for a 7'2" or a 6'8" med/heavy fast action, and those will cover a lot of different baits for you. Plus they have a lifetime warranty! Tight lines. Matthew Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted April 24, 2014 Super User Posted April 24, 2014 7' medium *** is the best all around $100 spinning rod I've ever used. Very comfortable to fish with as well, the handle just feels right. If you prefer shorter, the 6'7" would work great too. Quote

Literally popped at two places in the top one third on a good fish. We will see how good the warranty service is but as of now I would never buy another one. Bummer, comfy rod to hold. Quote
