Fishwhittler Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 Someone posted the Hedgehog studios webpage and I took a look around and found micro spools. What are the benefits of using them. Those spools are for use with light line and light rods for casting light lures on baitcast gear, lures normally used on light/ultralight spinning gear. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 A lighter spool will start up easier which what makes them better for light lures. On the other side a heavier spool will spin longer since it carries more inertia. This gets longer casts with heavier baits. Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted June 14, 2013 Super User Posted June 14, 2013 Most of the micro spools hold a very small amount of line so it's important to use a thin diameter, light line. I've also heard that some of the spools can be damaged with braided lines. I've been toying with idea of buying a Yumeya spool for my 50E but I don't have a proper BFS rod. You need a rod that can cast really light baits to get the full benefit from it. Quote
21farms Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 shallow spools hold less line which can be heavy. this overall weight allows the spool to start up faster and with lighter lures. DVT, i think you mean a heavier spool will spin longer because it has more momentum, not inertia. jrob78, i have yumeya spool on my chronarch 50E...it will improve your lightweight casting regardless of the rod. i also find it helps a LOT with pitching. 1 Quote
oldschoolbasser Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 I have Avail micro spools on my 2500C's,and 4500C Ambassadeurs, and they really make a difference when using lighter line, and lures. They aren't cheap, but they work well, and look cool too. Quote
