WhiteMike1018 Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 So basically i have a few white spinnerbaits with red painted on eyes and yellow painted on eyes that look somewhat unappealing to me. I want the entire bait to be white...what suggestions do you have for going over the original paint? White-out maybe? I just want to go over these ugly eyes any suggestions helpful -MIke Quote
cadman Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 If you want to something really quick and cheap try this. Wipe down the spinnerbait with alcohol, let dry. Take some white electrical tape, punch some round holes in the tape and then stick it on the current eyes. The tape will hold fairly well. There are other more permanent methods though. Quote
5dollarsplash Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 I'd tape up the rest of the bait with painters tape and spray away with rustoleum. You'll have to paint the whole head probably to get them to match really well. Quote

newriverfisherman1953 Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Find you some white finger nail polish and brush away. Quick and easy, no taping and no spraying. 1 Quote

Blues19 Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 White acrylic paint could work as well. just put it on with a Q-tip Quote
Downeaster2010 Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 I took all my old spinner baits, and scraped off the old paint, removed the skirts. Then I powder dipped them in the colors I wanted, the tied on new skirts. I previously purchased a bunch of skirts from Cabelas The rubber ring that holds the skirts in place was down in the bend of the hook in a couple of cast. One one cast I was the skirt fly off. I boated in to see if I could recover it, only to find a 3 lb largemouth had swallowed it. So I brought everything inside and retied them. I won't lose any more skirts. All the spinner baits look new again. Quote
Renesis07 Posted July 15, 2013 Posted July 15, 2013 Are there any paints to avoid? I have some spinner baits that have knicked paint from bumping rocks, I was worried to 'touch them up' since I didn't know if there was a certain paint to use/not use.... I may try the nail polish suggestion above Quote

I may try the nail polish suggestion above Depending on what paint was on there before. Some paints that are lacquer based will chew up powder paint. Also some nail polishes that have an acetone base will do the same. Try it on one spinnerbait body first to see the results. BTW I'm from northern IL, and I fish some of the same waters you do. Quote
Kevin22 Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 Try a sharpie to touch them up, and then put clear nail polish or 2 ton epoxy over it as a clear. White out for white. Personally I just remove the skirt, hit the head with some paint thinner to remove the paint and then hit it with a rattle can (spray paint) and then devcon 2 ton over it. For ones I start from scratch I power paint. Quote

Thanks for the suggestions. Cool to see someone local on here! I grew up in northern IL (Lindenhurst area) and moved to Lisle a couple years back to get closer to work. If you know of any good spots in Dupage county let me know, still finding my spots out this way. Up north you could throw a rock and hit a lake! (Guess that's why it's called lake county) Quote

tholmes Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 I've repainted spinnerbait heads by: - Removing as much of the old paint as practical. I clean the head with brake cleaner and wipe with a paper towel. - Mask the hook and wire and spray the head with primer. - -Finish with a couple of coats of white epoxy appliance enamel, If you want a different color, just overcoat the white. Eyes can be added with a Sharpie, or use the adhesive-backed eyes. Tom Quote
