tdown1207 Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 I have an abu garcia revo sx on a 7ft M action vendetta and can not figure out which line is the best to use. Mono or Braided at the moment I am running stren 10lb but the line has too much memory and seems to kink up a lot any suggestions? Quote
thehooligan Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 I like 20-30lb braid, and flouro leaders if im fishing clear water. Quote

Arv Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 x4 Really starting to like braid + fluoro the more that I use it Quote
Brackish Angler 228 Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 I love the way braid casts and the sensitivity is AMAZING! The problem is, I'm just terrible at leader tying apparently. I have had too many break-offs at the uni-uni connection to my fluoro. I set the hook in a fish just to get some braid flying back at me the other day. I'm a highly conservationist-type angler and it made me sick to think there's a fish out there with a 3/0 hook and trickworm stuck in his lip . I've switched to pure fluoro unfortunately. Quote
tdown1207 Posted June 12, 2013 Author Posted June 12, 2013 I have never run a braid floro combo like that, how long of a leader to y'all reccomend? Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted June 12, 2013 Super User Posted June 12, 2013 I have never run a braid floro combo like that, how long of a leader to y'all reccomend? x5 on the braid. Leader length any where from 18" to 3ft is common. Quote

Have you tried using the Alberto Knot for splicing your lines? Might want to give it a try before giving up on braid entirely. Quote

Do away with the leader. I have never used a leader with braid some people swear you need and others like me think its a waste. My dad always used a leader then after a month of comparing numbers I had caught more fish and bigger fish not using a leader. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted June 12, 2013 Super User Posted June 12, 2013 run at least 50 lb braid to prevent digging in.forget the leader. Quote

I really don't know what to believe because my Calcutta runs braid and I saw a lot more action when I started using fluoro leaders. Most of the time I fish stained/dingy water but when I fish rivers they're usually crystal clear to about 12 feet. I don't know if using fluoro (or leader) is a confidence thing for me or what, I just prefer it. Quote

loudcherokee Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 I used 10-14lb mono for years. just recently switched to 30lb powerpro and I'm never going back to mono on a baitcaster. The sensitivity is amazing. it was like I could feel every turn of the big Colorado leaf on my terminator spinnerbait. my second or third cast I hauled in the little guy in my profile pic. I honestly think I was missing strikes on mono, as when he grabbed on there was no doubt I had a fish. I haven't used a leader yet, but do use a mono backer on my spool. LC Quote
livetofish28 Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 X how ever many the number is up to for braided line I have 40# power pro on most of my casting rigs but One which has 80# spiderwire for A-Rigs the sensitivity is amazing Quote
Brackish Angler 228 Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 The smoothest braid I've ever used is Power Pro Super Slick. Quote

LC If you think braid is sensitive, just wait until you try tungsten weights lol. I was skeptical at first, but I used one for the first time a couple weeks ago. Even with Yo-Zuri Hybrid I could feel the difference between when I would come across a rock or a stick or if I was dragging through mud/muck or weeds. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted June 12, 2013 Super User Posted June 12, 2013 braid with tungsten weights is unbelieveably sensitive. Quote
thehooligan Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 I have never run a braid floro combo like that, how long of a leader to y'all reccomend? I usually go 8-10ft, if your changing baits often it gives you plenty of line, and no chance of fish seeing your braid. Quote
RoachDad Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 So dump the leader. I have no trouble using braid on the lure. I have had too many break-offs at the uni-uni connection to my fluoro. Quote
