Nailing Huge Smallmouth

So I live on Lake Arrowhead, a relatively well known Largemouth lake. I was out on my little boat alone last night, and I had some time to kill. So I maxed out my tiny motor (actually just a powerful trolling motor attached to a BPS pond prowler type boat) and ran down lake until I found smallie heaven. It was a channel connecting the Limerick side of the lake with the Waterboro one. The lake is in two towns FYI. When the water draw-down happened, I mapped out this whole channel because I knew there would be big fish. There was an eroded clay bank that immediately dropped form 2 ft of water, down to 12. The bottom was sand and gravel for reference. I tossed my jig down and caught an 11 inch LM on my first cast. Second cast, a hit, and a lost fish. My cellphone rang just as I made my third cast and I dropped my rod to the deck to answer it. I didn't open the bail, so no more than 20 seconds into my phone conversation, I hear a, katunk donk katunk! sort of noise as my rod is being bounced on the deck by a fish pulling. I say, "hold on, Dad!" And did a casual little one handed hook set and yelled, "Holy SH#T!" I drop the phone to the deck, and two minutes later I am looking a gorgeous 20 inch smallie. There were some pleasure boaters that stopped to watch the whole incident. Totally made my day.

Great story but i would think about upgrading phones to the iphone 4 or 4s and getting a life proof. Completely water proof case and the phone takes excellent video and still pictures. IMO better option than getting a go pro to begin with because you wont really forget your phone and the battery life is pretty good. I would say get a go pro after you upgrade phones.

Man I have the 4s and IMO the camera and video quality sucks compared to that of a real camera.. The iPhone zoom is horrible. Idk if there is another app that makes the camera better but I doubt it I use the standard camera feature and it's horrible compared to other smart phones with less megapixels.

I just suggested the iphone because i know they make lifeproof cases for them and he was thinking about a go pro so i assumed he wanted water proof. There are phones with better video and picture quality but i dont think any of them come close in ease of use.

Yes you are absolutely correct about the ease of use. That's y I stuck with the iPhones because I feel it's simple and everything flows.

I just wish instead of giving us the same recycled phones add a nice ZOOM on the camera that's all it need.

I feel for you man. While LM bass are fun, smallmouth fight meaner, longer, and jump higher! Pound for pound they are harder fighters.

I use a smart phone and for the most part the pictures are fine, except when someone else uses it.  They seem to get the the pics out of focus when the camera is in auto focus mode, such is life, glad I'm not a stickler about it.

The flip phones I have had did not allow me to upload to my pc,  could however email a pic to myself.  Whether it's an apple or android uploaded is easy and there are quite a few options available.  Instant upload to picasa, third party site (cloud), cable to pc or ftp client and server using wifi connection.

Yea that's what I hear about smallmouth. My whole life I've only fishe for largemouth. I never experienced te fight o a smallmouth or a peacock bass.
