moguy1973 Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 Anyone using these? I got some gift cards to BPS and was looking for a cheaper setup with LH retrieve and a 7:1 gear ratio to put some braid on for a jig/frog/pitch rig. The Bionic reels seem to get pretty good reviews on BPS' website but was wondering if anyone here had any input. If not I'll just wait for the PQ to go on sale and get another one of those. Quote
Super User lmbfisherman Posted June 11, 2013 Super User Posted June 11, 2013 I believe jhoffman has one and he said it's a solid reel. I believe he has a review of the internals. Should do a search. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 Bang for buck wise a PQ on sale is hard to beat. 1 Quote
hooah212002 Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 Bang for buck wise a PQ on sale is hard to beat. They've been on sale for a while, but just went back to normal price maybe a week ago. Any idea how frequently they go on sale? Quote
jhoffman Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 Yes, I own the bionic and I really like it. Internally it reminds me of the older daiwas but its very smooth, has dual brakes. Id buy another if they offered one in a lower ratio, i need a new crankn reel. I use mine for throwing topwater, bought it and one of the walmart vendettas as a cheap dedicated setup and love them both. Wish I wouldve bought multiples of each. I paid $59 for mine on sale, at that price its an ABSOLUTE steal! Paired with a vendetta I bought for $29(walmart must be stupid) and for $90 I couldnt be happier. It ranks right up there with my other stuff although I cannot compare it to high end JDM reels, I dont think that would be fair. It casts every bit as well as my PQ but the PQ has it in the sideplate setup. The bionic has its side plate release right where your index finger hits. Quote
moguy1973 Posted June 11, 2013 Author Posted June 11, 2013 Anyone know if its true or not that the Bionic combos (with bionic blade rods) have different reels than if you bought just the reel separate?? Quote
