NEjitterbugger Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Just ordered a quantum antix from TW, anyone like, dislike, etc. this reel... Any personal experience with reel will be appreciated Quote
TNBassin' Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 The reviews on TW are horrible. If you have any issues out of it, send that sucker back. They have the lefty version for $50 and I'm tempted to pull the trigger and at least give it a shot. Hope it works out well for you. 1 Quote
dam0007 Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Lmao I ordered the lefty the other day. I had gotten the accurist one with memorial day sale for 65 with a reel cover. Called back to order another and they wouldn't match the sale price again so ordered the antix. I tried out dicks version called escalade and it seems like a decent reel. It's not a chronarch by any means but for 50 I don't think you can go wrong. ... so ill be guinea pig let you guys know what the deal is when it comes in this week. 1 Quote
Dave P Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 I've had one for a couple of years. It's nice, small, palms well. Casts decent. It's handled several fish up to 5 pounds or so. My gripe is that the gears make a lot of noise when you reel it in. I have taken it down and greased them with no change. I'm not really impressed with the bearings either. I clean and lube them a lot more than my other reels and they still make a little noise. I paid full retail for mine and wanted a Lews, but they were sold out. I needed a reel right then, so...if I had to do it all over, I'd have gotten something else. 1 Quote

The reviews scared me once I ordered it, and yeah got the left for $50 Quote
dam0007 Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 I'm not gonna B S any of you but the accurist line is rock solid for the money. The spinning and baitcasting. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted June 11, 2013 Super User Posted June 11, 2013 The old accurist is on sale at TW for 80 bucks, it is a no frills reel and it is far from the smoothest reel but it will last a long time. That said, try to wait and save up a little more money and get a casting reel around the $100 dollar mark. The reason is most of the 50 and 60 dollar reels are made with a graphite frame which will flex and the gears will then be out of alignment and it is something that can't be fixed plus the parts are all substandard which is why the price is so low. I hate to tell you that and there always is an exception but in my 30+ years of bass fishing I found that most of the reels in this catagory will make a season perhaps 2 if you don't go much. 1 thing is true when it comes to fishing tackle, and that is you usually get what you pay for so in the future use what you have and save you nickels until you can afford a better reel, you'll be much happier in the long run. dam0007 Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Got it in today. Here are my first impressions. Not as good as the accurist model. Handle knobs are curved for right hand grip on lefty reel. Feels a little awkward. They also have a cheap feel to them. Reel is as smooth as your gonna get for $50. It feels solid. I don't care about a ounce here or there like some so to me it's not a big deal but it does feel heftier for a 100 size. Has flipping switch which I didn't realize upon purchasing. This could be useful. Ummmm I don't what else to say without actually using it.... star drag handle feels like cheap plastic.... lol to me this would be a great entry level reel or just a spare beater reel. I have gained confidence in Quantums products which says a lot coming from a shimano die hard and I haven't even fished their top shelf stuff. ...M verdict good bang for the buck in the price range.
