Mikell Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 I'm looking to get into baitcasting, right now im just using my pfleuger trion on a 6'6 abu cardinal it gets the job done. But im wanting to get something a lil more robust for cranking and spinnerbaits, im looking for a rod in the 6'6 7' range MH and probably would prefer something closer to 6'6, ive already got a couple reels im looking into, so i just needed some advice on a rod. I would like to stay under 50 dollars seeing how if i dont master or have the patients for baitcaster i dont want to just be throwin money away ya know lol If you have some ideas thanks i really appreciate it! s freud Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 I justgot my first baitcaster. I like my berkley shock. It was easier than I expected thanks to Glenn's video which is stickied above. In fact just favorite his YouTube channel because he is great. Tight lines. Quote
0119 Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 Yup the Berkeley Shock is quite a rod for the money. A comfortable handle, good action. Don't worry about using a 6'6" rod. Most folks think they have to have a 7ft'er but most of the extra length goes into a cumbersomely long handle. Stick to it and get the casting down. It really is worth it. Lighter. More comfortable. Best of all it sets you apart from the novice! 1 Quote
LARGEMOUTH ANGLER Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 7 foot rod is the most versatile length but a lot of people don't know that. and get reliable reel brands like shimano, quantum, daiwa and abu garcias Quote
Super User AK-Jax86 Posted June 10, 2013 Super User Posted June 10, 2013 I am new to bait casters too. I have 2 of them I got a abu Garcia Orra sx and I have the abu Garcia revo STX. I have the Orra set up on a 6'6" bass pro tourney rod. I luckily got both my reels brand new for free... I think the Orra was around $100 and the revo STX was $200. So when I get the hang of the bait cast I will upgrade my rods Quote
0119 Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 There's nothing versatile about a 7ft.er in any fishing situation I choose to fish. A down right burden and obstacle as a matter of fact. Luckily we all have a choice, albeit manufacturers have decided to manipulate the market to think they need to have long rods. Soon when sales dictate it, they will push the need for short rods.
