What prizes have been donated? It is already semi private and would be easy for them to close to the public to prevent any more INS species from getting into the lake.  We have some stuff from Sieberts, Delaware Valley Tackle, and I know I'm missing one? Enough that we should be able to get everyone something out of the deal if we decide to hand everything out like we did last time. Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 15, 2013 Author Global Moderator Posted September 15, 2013 Lake is still open and they're still spraying down boats and grilling everyone under a bright, hot light that wants on the lake that doesn't live there  pbrussell was there Saturday, I'll let him decide if he wants to give his report or save the info for the tournament. Quote
Super User Hi Salenity Posted September 15, 2013 Super User Posted September 15, 2013 ^^^ that's insane!!!!! If your lake has them it's tooooo late to prevent them! Pbrussell what was the gate Nazi's attitude like Saturday? Quote

pbrussell Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 I want to win a prize! ha. I'll post some pics tomorrow of the two keepers I caught. Anyhow, yesterday was a bit of a grind (was for a few others from what I understand as well.) I caught 12 fish, two of them keeper smallies. Didn't catch a single largemouth.  Dinks on the ned rig. Dinks on a squarebill. Big fish on the jig.  Apparently a lipless bait worked well for green fish, ripped through the grass. Found that out from a regular. I almost tied one on to do just that but figured the water was too warm. Water temps are sitting at 77. Docks were not productive. Rock was. It appears horizontal presentations can work out here, but you have to find the "money bait" to make it count.  I imagine things will be different next week. There's a lot of options for these fish I think. The person that discovers the pattern within the pattern will win this thing. Also willing to bet the winners will have a 20+ pound bag, and someone is catching a 5+ smallmouth.  Just my guess. At least I know I won't draw a blank out there, but I don't expect to win. I might even swing for the fences and fish a giant jig all day just to see if I can't tangle with a baunsee giant. Quote
pbrussell Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 And oh, the gate lady. She's a firecracker, and it was very clear she didn't want me there. She even admitted to being a "hard ass." Eventually I won her over with my boyish charm, and by offering to spray my own boat. However, she is a tough cookie to crack. If you're patient and show her you care about preserving the lake, she might even pass for nice? Quote
Mr_Scrogg Posted September 16, 2013 Posted September 16, 2013 Boyish charm, aka slipped her the meat. Lol 1 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 19, 2013 Author Global Moderator Posted September 19, 2013 I'll ask tomorrow. I know they have small tournaments from time to time with outside groups so it shouldn't be a problem. Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 19, 2013 Author Global Moderator Posted September 19, 2013 Ok, so I talked to the lady at the ramp (not THE lady but the lady that was at the gate) about the get together. I guess she'd already heard about it and asked about our tournament and if I was fishing in it. I told her I was going to be there with a group of guys the 5th. She said she'd talked to city reps and they said no go on any tournaments. I explained that it wasn't a tournament but a group of guys getting together for some fishing and BSing and food. She lightened up a little when I told her that and asked that I just let everyone know not to call it a "tournament" and make sure everyone knows not to have their boats anywhere within 7 days of the get together. She also thought it might be a good idea for everyone to take their boats to a car wash and spray them off before hand. She said as long as I'd promise to get the message accross to everyone that she'd be there before 7am on the 5th to help check us in. So if you read this and get a text from me to read it just ignore my text. Quote

Chris S Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 Who lives in or near OP and knows how to get to this Lake? Quote
Mr_Scrogg Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 It's not that difficult coming from Wichita. Turnpike to exit 147, Then west till 99, North on 99. Through Eskridge, and it's on the left hand side of the road. about 2 hours from Wichita. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 20, 2013 Author Global Moderator Posted September 20, 2013 Who lives in or near OP and knows how to get to this Lake? I take 56 there, it's the most direct route. You can take I70 to highway 4 too but it's a really windy, twisty road when you get close. You have to detour around Baldwin City right now but if you want to go that way I can give you directions or you can just follow me out there if you want. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted September 21, 2013 Author Global Moderator Posted September 21, 2013 Well something just seemed off yesterday. Maybe it was the 25mph wind making it tough to fish and control the boat but it really just felt like something wasn't right because even when we got out of the wind we were struggling and most of the fish we caught were smallmouth for some reason. I think it's probably just because the water is cooling down and the fish are trying to adjust, I doubt the full moon helped either. Scrogg's walleye was an absolute monster, bigger than any I've seen in person since my dad's friend caught a 9 pounder at Milford. It was every bit of 7-8 pounds and may have been pushing 10 depending on how fat it was, and it looked really thick. That one tiny little hook it had in the side of it's face just didn't hold on quite long enough. The first couple fish I caught were dink smallmouth, then I broke off a fish where I caught a keeper last trip, then again off another spot I caught a keeper last week. Good thing about that was I tied those 2 jigs just for Wabaunsee the day before  I flipped another dock, stuck a good fish that make a really big boil, then it popped off. A little ways further I flipped a boat lift and my jig sank about 2 feet before it stopped. I stuck a good fish that had me wrapped up for a few seconds before it worked loose and I finally got one in the boat. 18" and 3lbs 1oz. We didn't do much else for a long time. It was probably over an hour before I caught another fish. I started fishing a weightless Havoc Flat Dawg and catching some fish but they were pretty small. I hooked a heavy fish off the dam on a jig but the wind had blown such a big bow in my line I didn't get a solid hookset and then couldn't keep up when it steamed out to deeper water and it came loose. Right towards the end of the day I finally caught a 17.5" largemouth on a Senko. I took my jig off and started fishing a Zoom Mag II worm and catching some fish, more largemouth than with the jig. The last 5 minutes we were there I think I caught 5 or 6 more largemouth in way less time than I had at any point all day and one of them was another pretty solid fish. Would have been pretty lucky to scratch 12 pounds today. Scrogg caught more fish on a Luck E Strike Series 100 than anything else I think. Quote
