Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 9, 2013 Global Moderator Posted June 9, 2013 Never have but they are high on the list of fish I'd like to catch! If I go after them I want to go to the Amazon though and fish for the really big ones along with all the other cool fish that there are down there. Quote
tshare18 Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 I just made a trip to Bass Pro Shops in Fort Lauderdale yesterday. I went down there to get a new reel and to fish for Peacock Bass. It was my first time fishing for them, although I seen a few and had a few chase my lures and one grab my popper I didnt catch one. I talked to a few locals and posted a topic in the Southeast fishing parts of these forums to try and find where/how to catch them. I was told fast moving lures or topwater and they hit most during the middle of the day when it is hottest. I plan on going again soon to catch one this time. Quote
5 Dollar Fishing Game Posted June 9, 2013 Author Posted June 9, 2013 good luck tshare18. :-) Definately post pics! Quote

Super User AK-Jax86 Posted June 10, 2013 Super User Posted June 10, 2013 I live in Jacksonville I've never caught a peacock bass I don't think they are native to this area waters probably get too cold during the winter months Quote
fstr385 Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Ive only caught a few, and only once was I fishing for them. This is the biggest on I got rippin a white/chart spinner parallel down a ledge @ just over 4lbs. Then some others... Quote
Super User AK-Jax86 Posted June 11, 2013 Super User Posted June 11, 2013 I want to do some Peacock bass fishing. Anybody know the closest place to Jacksonville where I can catch em? Quote

fstr385 Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 I want to do some Peacock bass fishing. Anybody know the closest place to Jacksonville where I can catch em? the farthest North Ive gotten one, was in Lake Osbourne in the Lake Worth area, and was really shocked to get it that far up. Really Southern Broward County and down are the real go to place if your looking for them specifically, but you can find them in patches here and there between down there and Palm Beach County. I don't know about any farther North than that. Quote
derekxec Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 we used to have a ton of them in palm beach county but a cold winter came and killed them off...and thats exactly what was supposed to happen so if you see them anywhere near northern florida dont expect them to last long...ive seen a few lately in west palm beach but not many...i love in royal palm beach and we used to have tons of them in the canals near me before that winter the reason the fwc chose peacocks was because they cant handle the cold so they wont get out of hand and make it very far up florida without being killed off in the winter Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted June 11, 2013 Super User Posted June 11, 2013 Before the freeze a few years ago I was catching almost as many peas as LMB behind my home in Delray, as well as many other Palm Beach county locations. I do know they still catch them in Lake Ida and Lake Osborn and I have caught a few in the nearby canals of Lake Ida, the pic I posted was caught there within the last year. In South America they have 4 or 5 different strains that we don't have here and they get much bigger down there, RedlineRobert has been there and caught some awesome ones. I have a couple buddys down here that are strictly saltwater fly fisherman that have been in the Amazon fly fishing for them, they can't rave enough about them, a 20# woodknocker on a fly rod is pretty cool. 1 Quote

Super User SirSnookalot Posted August 9, 2014 Super User Posted August 9, 2014 Your'e going to have to head south. This past week they have been fairly hot, on beds now and do take a bit of coaxing but they can be had. I do know they can be caught as far north as Lake Osborne, Lake Ida and the surrounding canals is where I catch mine. I don't think the Miami area can be beat for them, much more aggressive down there. 1 Quote
