Man that sounds amazing! And not taking a pic for the benefit of the fish was a good idea.  If they decide to do another tournament PLEASE make sure you take your camera, I want to see these monsters.  I have been fishing this canal in Ponte Vedra from time to time but I can't seem to get a single bite.

I had my phone camera, no tape, but a rod for reference. And since I wasn't taking pics that day expecting only to catch small ones, and then this monster and the gut hook and the gills bleeding, I just decided not to. And yea, it was amazing! I'll be trying that place again in few days with some jigs :-)

Too bad about the pics, I would have loved for you to make LMGamblers 7 pounder look dinky LOL

How did you have the lizard rigged?

t-rigged with 1/8oz bullet.

i would cast across the canal and let it drop to the bottom (this canal has vertical walls) and soon i would feel like some whacked my rod with a big stick. other times i would feel slack or slight tension and see the line run off to the side.

yea, that 7lbs LMG pulled on Thursday ain't got nothing on my monster bass from yesterday!

Yeah I was throwing some craws this morning, went too late but hey only time I could. I will try the lizards, was doing well on 7 and 10 in ribbon tails but got that only big one for june on a baby brush hog all on a t-rig, didnt do to bad the couple times out with the rattle trap last week. I might try some smaller ponds too so I can cast the deeper parts.

Anybody in Jacksonville needs to go to Gander Mountain and pick up some x Factor baits they are $1.97. I went fishing with bass czar and he put me on them. I can see These things being my new go to they only make 5" though, I'm trying to find something similar but bigger. I went out at 730p til night and was slaying them nothing big though but numbers.

they come in 7" alsp

Mvorbrodt, too bad about the pics and the big bass. Hopefully the bass will make it to be caught for another day. AKN-NJ, if this friendly tourney is held again a clarification has to be made if its only to be open to bank fishing. I thought every FL forum member boater or bank fisherman could participate. like Mvorbrodt, good observation and change of technique. Sometimes a little change like the one you experienced is all it takes to produce fish.

No I wasn't complaining about people fishing in boats. Fishing is fishing I was just stating the obvious that you have access to more of the lake if you have a boat. If us bank fishermen wanted we could hop in the water and swim to the spots we need tred water and catch em

I wish every FL member would get on this competition. I just like to see what other people in this state are catching. Other than information main reason y I am so active on this site is cuz I like seeing pics of what people are catching and how they caught them.

Congrats AK! You had this one right off the bat. I ended up only making 101.5". I got stuck going out of town this past weekend for family crap and havent been around. The month of July should be a good challenge for us all North and South! :eyebrows:

Yea man I basically caught all mine real quick an the past few weeks have been rough. I missed two that would have beaten my PB of 6.10 but everything else has been small!! This weather is making it rough. Not only are the fish not biting, and when they do they are dinks and I'm ticked that they did bite, but this heat makes my patience run thin. I doubt the July and August sun will be any less hot

AK-NJ, pls do not misunderstand me. I did not take your statement as complaining. I thought I misunderstood on who could participate. Congrats again. So are we doing this again or what? Should be very interesting this month. July heat is no joke. I am game if you guys are. I love to fish, but this friendly tournament makes me fish with a purpose in mind.

X2 I like fishing with a little reason behind it. Plus like others said it makes for good conversation on tactics and tips.I am in for what it is worth. Been getting a 30 minute breaks from diaper duty LOL The problem is, I like to hit the water at 5:30 6 am and I am only getting to leave the house a little early putting me at my spots around 7 am. Waaay to late IMO. Should be a challege for me to figure it out.

Oh and Congrats AK! it was your month!

The fishing in Gainesville is garbage so I took a trip to hang out with a buddy in Tampa and took my inflatable Bass Get'r out on a small private pond. Missed a bass right before sunset that had to be over 10 lbs. I was throwing a big buzz bait and it boiled on it HUGE, took it under, then it popped out. Saw it waking a lot of water coming for it again, hit it with the biggest splash I have ever seen a bass make in my life and missed it again. She was gone forever after that.

It's a finicky little pond but on the same note, holds some HUGE bass.

Nothing too big but decent. 3.8 lbs

This thread is over with but I can still brag a bit. I lived out west and up in the north east for a short time and realized how much I really missed home. Nothing compares to Bass'n in Florida.
