Not sure who that company is but Wiley X is in California and was founded by some Military Veterans. They supply a lot of glasses to the military too. Quote

I know it is hard to drop that cash on sunglasses (that's why I traded for mine). Costa and Maui are my tops. I used to like Oakley, I mean old Oakley. Now they seem more interested in fashion. I am not surprised they are owned by that company. You can not tell the difference that a pair of Costas make by comparing them in a store, but on the water it is evident, even compared to polarized glasses. Quote

I'm kind of a sunglass junky I probably have 10 pairs my favorites are my costa's followed closely by the old pair of maui jims I have. I use wiley x glasses for work and bike riding or any time I have a chance of breaking a pair with glass lenses. I used to wear a pair of oakleys but the polarization started to delaminate on the lense. 1 Quote

I do not know why but several times we end up talking about eyewear. Believe it or not, there are many people who still do not know about polarized lenses. I take off my pair of glasses to show them and they are speechless. The point I am trying to make is do not sacrifice your eyesight when fishing. Great sunglasses I believe are game changers. 1 Quote

I paid over 100 bucks to replace my wife's lenses and I have to do the same for mine. Mine are so old that they don't stock the lenses in the store. Are these glasses you say are as good as Oakley's cheaper? I can get a good pair of Oakley's for about 175. (which is fine by me. My sunglasses are well taken care of and last a min. of 8 years) Quote

I fish with cheap polarized stuff and I have to admit that many times I have learned that I did not know what I was missing until I ventured out. So, I will see if I can borrow, switch off with a fishing partner and see what I see. As for eye protection, gee, I dunno. Eyes evolved without sunglasses so we probably really don't need them for protection, but on the other hand we evolved without antibiotics and sunscreen too. Seems to me that sunglasses cause your pupils to dilate and that once dilated, any light that intrudes from the sides or the other gaps, for that reason - pupil dilation - may well be harmful. So . . . . I buy sunglasses that prevent light from coming in from the sides and most, in terms of their fit on my face just flat fail to do that. That means I buy those ugly oversized plastic glasses that are designed to go over prescription eyeglasses. The way they wrap around and close out that extraneous light is what sells me. Admittedly, the quality of their polarization likely is inferior. Quote

scrutch Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 I like my Costas better than my Maui Jim's, Ray Bans, and my Oakleys. The fit is best. The lenses are more difficult to tell the differences but I have been able to try them out looking at the same things underwater by taking one pair off and putting on another and after that I feel that the Costas have the best lenses. Keep in mind that not all of my lenses are the same shade so that may or may not have made some difference. Just my $.02 Quote
