Mailed off the check today. It's a 2005 Xpress X19. Had a mechanic take it out on the water, run a compression test, check the hull, check all the systems and it passed with flying colors. I'm beyond excited to finally be out on the water instead of being on the bank longingly staring out as the guys on boats cruise around the lake.

Thanks to everyone who chimed in here on my last post... it definitely helped me in making my decision.

One more question. For convenience sake, I'm thinking of renting a covered slip for the summer and fall on Grand Lake here in Oklahoma. What are the pros and cons of leaving the boat in the water? Do I really need to invest in a lift? I hear people swear by one way or the other. Its a tin hull, so no gel coat, if that makes a difference. Thoughts, comments, concerns??

Here are some pictures of my baby to be... driving down next Sunday to pick her up!!! :respect-059: I'll be removing the decals, and at some point in time having the hull repainted black. But that's down the road. Right now I'm just over the moon to even have a boat.

how clean is the water at grand lake. even though you dont have gel coat that white can get stained.

you want to keep lower unit out of the water when not in use. constantly submerged water will get by your seals eventually.

also be sure you have a automatic bilge pump in case in gets swamped while your gone.

Nice. Would you mind me asking, how much did you pay and what are the specs on it? (motor size, what all it came with). I'm currently looking for my right boat to pull the trigger on.

I wouldn't leave it floating in the water for a long period of time, that's just me.   It just seems to me that you are asking for issues should you do that.   Now if you had a slip with a lift on it, that is a different story.  I don't have a problem leaving it in the water for a few days, like on a trip or something like that.

For me, the cons would be someone tampering with the boat. I would definitely not leave gear or electronics on it. I don't know if MotorGuide has a quick release bracket so you can bring the TM home with you as well. You'll have to make sure the slip has power so you can charge your batteries. If the slip is in a high traffic area, a lift is going to protect the hull from boat wakes slamming it into the dock.

I would definitely not keep my boat in a slip with or without lift. It's too easy to launch and load a boat at the ramp. If you're going to be spending a few days on the lake you might consider it for that period. Sloanzp made a couple valid points. There is also the fact that with the boat at your house, you can work on it easily. If you can keep it in a garage, you can leave your gear on it. If you live in an apartment or something and do not have protected parking for it, a storage can be found closer to your home, and it will be safer and less expensive than a slip. Just my .02
