Jake P Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 Your ideal conditions for throwing a shakey head and what technique works best for you? I have tried a few times but it never paid off for me. I am determined to make it work. Quote
Super User Sam Posted June 16, 2010 Super User Posted June 16, 2010 All conditions. Keep trying. Try to find any structure you can, with wood being the best to use the shaky head. Great presentation and it always catches fish for me. Quote
soccplayer07 Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 as with any "new" technique try it when you are already catching fish on something else. This will help you gain confidence in the bait. A shakey head can be deadly! Quote
Gamec0cks5 Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 I like throwing mine around shell & Rock beds. I also like to throw it around any structure, I have done better in shallower water (less than 6ft). Just keep at it, it is a deadly technique Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted June 16, 2010 Super User Posted June 16, 2010 Buy a pack of GYCB 6 1/2" Kut Tail, you will become a believer! 8-) Quote
soccplayer07 Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 RW, What is the weight of jig you are using for the large kut tails??? i'm guessing it's the megastrike 2 jig. Quote
Nice_Bass Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 I use it around cover, docks and stumps when the fishing is slow. Usually in water 8-18ft. Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted June 16, 2010 Super User Posted June 16, 2010 I fish them really anywhere at any time. structure is a big plus, I normally fish under a bridge with some rock piles and standing timber. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted June 16, 2010 Super User Posted June 16, 2010 RW,What is the weight of jig you are using for the large kut tails??? i'm guessing it's the megastrike 2 jig. 3/8 oz Shak-E2. The new Pro Series offers a screw-lock bait keeper if that is a feature you prefer. http://www.megastrike.com/ 8-) Quote

Super User K_Mac Posted June 17, 2010 Super User Posted June 17, 2010 Shakyhead fishing is one place where lighter is usually better IMO. My favorite set up is a 1/8 oz Spot Remover jig with a Zoom Trickworm. I will go up to 3/16 or 1/4 oz in deep water, or if wind requires a little more weight. I will downsize to a Zoom finesse worm in very clear water or when the fish insist. I use 6# YoZuri Hybrid and spinning gear (a 6'6" MF rod is my preference). As has been said, you can fish them just about anywhere. Transition seams, esp where rock/gravel meets grass, are some of my favorite spots to use them. Rocky points and humps are also high on the list. Good luck. Quote
timothy_spain Posted June 17, 2010 Posted June 17, 2010 what about in hydrilla? would you throw shakey head into that mess? Quote
