Fish'N Impossible Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 Hey guys, new to the forum and living in central Ohio. Fishing at Rocky Fork next month in my first tournament. Anyone fish there often? Any thoughts/advice on the lake? Rocky Fork is a creature of it own. the fish you catch will either be 1.5 lbs or 6+ there never seems to be a middle. on the south side of the lake find the creek channel, there is a spot where it swings real close to a rock/sand/shell shoreline right off a point. on the other side of the point there is a bay/flat that is a Bluegill spawning bed. where that creek channle runs up forms a ledge/drop-off. goes from 3' to 7' then dumps to 17'. bounce a jig headed grub or a 7 inch work off the edge and just let it drop, and hold on. other tthan that spot early on about where the no wake zone starts on the West end of the lake, along the South side there is a submerged stump field. thouroghly drag the area with a Carolina rig using a 6" Gator lizard, or a big 4.5' Food chain tube from Powerteam Lures. This is where all the 6+ pound fish get landed almost every year. I caught my PB at Rocky Fork 7.65 off the ledge, she would have been bigger but i caught her in October. If you want me to make some maps for you to give you an idea of where i'm talking about I can just PM me or email me. good luck. Fishnimpoosible@gmail.com Quote
JLeon77 Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 Fishnimpossible, Thanks for the advice! I will keep all that in mind. I will only be the co-angler so i will probably have to yield to my boater for locations, but I will definitely take your advice to heart. Thanks! Quote

I was at Clearfork ( my home lake ) yesterday and caught one over six but that's not unusual for that lake any time of year. Quote

mikeD1Esel Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 I wish I had a boat to hit theses bigger lakes. I just went to AEP for the first time in 7 or 8 years. I caught 4 or 5 but they were all under 2 lbs. Quote

I have never been to the AEP lakes, but have heard stories about monsters getting pulled out of there. I'm gonna try and get out there this summer. I don't have a boat, that's why I joined a club this year so that I can get out on those lakes and maybe win some $$. Quote

I'm originally from Ohio, I'm currently stationed in Georgia and I'm just up here on leave. I went to a couple different ponds and fished out of a kayak. It wasn't too bad, but with it snowing today I don't know what to think haha. Quote
BamaBassChaser Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 Hey guys. How's the fishing in NE Ohio? I'll probably be moving there (Solon) around the beginning of June. I don't have a boat so I know I'll be limited in my options. Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated, thanks. Quote

The Chagrin River section of the metroparks is good. The Portage lakes system is also a good fishery with adequate shoreline access. Even Lake Erie can be fished with good success from shore. Welcome to Ohio, and more specifically the Cleveland area. Quote
5fishlimit Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Today's my first tournament of the year. Fishing at West Branch State Park today, and the nerves are in full effect. LOL. Hopefully, I'll be back later today with some good news. Tight lines everyone. Quote
5fishlimit Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Rough day at West Branch State Park today. Only got 2 bites all day, and one was a white bass that doesn't count. Finished with 1 fish, weighed 0.98lbs. My boater got nothing, so that was about the only victory for me today. Quote

5fishlimit Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 Spent the day out in Port Clinton fishing off the pier where the Jet Express leaves from and had a phenomenal day. I lost count after my 20th fish. Mostly LMB, but I did get a few smallies, a black crappie, and a massive sheephead. The water temps were around 53,and everything was working. Spinnerbait, rattle traps, crankbaits, and swim jigs. I'm still in shock about the amazing day I had. Quote
justafisherman Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 5fish, how often you go to Port Clinton? I do my cat fishing up there and bass fish sometimes. Never had that good of luck with largemouth but kill the white bass after the cats are done running. I'll be up there Saturday evening hopefully slaying the cats. Quote

I always do well, but never like this. All of last week - regardless of the body of water - I was whacking them. This past weekend I fished the TBF regional tournament at West Branch & Milton and everyone was surprised by the number of fish caught. I've got a club tournament at Berlin this coming Sunday, and am hoping that the bite is still going strong. Quote
5fishlimit Posted November 17, 2014 Posted November 17, 2014 It's been awhile since any posts! How was the fishing for everyone? I had a pretty good year, especially out on Lake Erie going after the brown fish. Quote
jeff25 Posted March 19, 2015 Posted March 19, 2015 Any one been out yet this year. I haven't been able to yet Quote
