whartko Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 looking for a 7 ft-ish MH casting rod in the 100 dollar-ish range. what are your thoughts on these or another rod as far as performance goes? i like my MH's to be a little stout without too soft of a tip. I want to use is for an all purpose rod but needs to be able to drive the hook home if you know what i mean. I have a veritas 6'6" mh and a spinning diesel so i have some idea of how they feel. will the diesel and *** have too soft of a tip? thanks! Quote
kadas Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 I have a Powell Diesel 7ft and i think it is one heck of a rod for the money--I do not think that it has a soft tip--use mine for t-rig and it is perfect for that Quote
shimmy Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 *** 100%. Unbelievable rod. Cannot believe its price. Fished one this last week for 1/4 oz to 3/8 oz jigs and was blown away. I just don't think you'll find anything else in the price range as that. You can always get lucky with a veritas or a diesel but their durability is always questionable in my opinion. The *** feels like you paid for an incredible rod and then you're reminded that you paid little for it. Quote
TNBassin' Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 *** is a beast. You can't beat it, Especially at the $100 price point. Quote
jherm87 Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 X3 on the ***. My friend just got a veritas and likes it as well. As said before try to hold them all and see what feels best to you Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted June 5, 2013 Super User Posted June 5, 2013 I have a 7'3 diesel and 7'6 both are MH. Also have a 7'3 H ***. Prefer my Powell's. *** is nicer to the eye for sure but the Powell feels better. It's hard to compare though since it's a H. That could be it. Fish ranger has higher end Powell's on sale. That'd be the way to go if I were you. Powell endurance for $109 normally $169 Quote

Super User rippin-lips Posted June 5, 2013 Super User Posted June 5, 2013 I bought it because my 7'6 diesel had 2 guides broke in shipping. I needed a stout rod for my Tx trip for pitching and frogs. I prefer the diesel still for pitching BUT the *** has became my designated frog rod and for that I absolutely love it. The shorter handle makes it easy to work the rod. Quote

I love an Endurance. Thats a killer deal. on a great rod. Quote

I have both a *** and a couple of diesels I dont see how one rod is more durable then the other. Quote
MrSwimJig Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 I have several *** Black rods and they are absolutely fantastic rods. They are true to their rating and have plenty of backbone to drag fish out of cover. Am also very pleasantly surprised with the sensitivity of these rods. Quote
sarcazmo Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Own em all. 13 hands down. More true to rating than the Veritas and more sensitive than both. Gave my buddy my diesel and veritas. Quote
