Another thing:  Once your reels are cleaned up and properly lubed, check out this video on casting light baits:

The video is geared toward lure weights more commonly fished on spinning gear, but that casting technique also works for heavier weights.

Also, KVD Line & Lure helps keep line limp and control casts, especially with mono and fluorocarbon.

There is your problem, I have never set more than one centrifugal brake on any of the 8 Lew's reels I own. some use no centrifugal brake, and as others have told you, there are more problems caused by over lubing than not enough. Think half a drop of oil!!! and adding oil, is not going to work with factory packed bearings!!! FLUSH means just that!!! Then you will see what one drop per bearing will do. DVC and .RM. know what they are talking about,,,,,,,,,,but from what you are telling us, is you are not listening. You can't kinda remove and add again, take it down and start dry. Only then will you be able to make an intelligent assessment. If you keep just kinda doing a half way strip and flush and clean, and then add more, you really are probably causing your own problems. I would send it in tell them what's wrong and have it properly serviced one time, then you know, and if it isn't you the service tech will let you know there is an issue with the reel, and Lew's will take care of it!!!!! This is how we all learned.  :thumbsup1:

I am going to flush it out probably this weekend, i just got to go buy some acetone. :handshake-147:

From reading past posts you have made I would venture to guess you are rather new to using baitcasters and most likely new to bass fishing. Do not take offense, we all start somewhere. Your post in the thread "What is your favorite baitcaster" where you say "I have no opinion on this cause all the reels i buy from those companies, no matter how high the rating, are *****. I am going to try a quantum energy pt. Looks nice" suggests new to baitcasters.

One cannot go out and buy a Stradivarius violin and expect to play the first chair in the Philharmonic Orchestra without several hours of practice. Same goes for using a new style of fishing reel. Perhaps you should get a casting plug and go to a place where you can practice, practice and practice. Work with all the settings until you find that sweet setting that works for you. You do not have to whip the crap out of the rod to get distance with a baitcaster and  when you do crank it, this can cause issues as well. Before you practice, I would take the reel to a tech and let them clean it thoroughly so you know that it is properly lubed and ready to go.

I am not new to bass fishing. I have used casters for about 2+ years and i have been bass fishing for .... i think around 6 ( Im in highschool). My main confusion right now is just the cleaning/lubing part. I am going to try the stuff suggested on this post. I have only took apart the entire reel 1 time so i don't really know what i'm doing lol!

Just keep a schematic in front of you while working and keep everything organized. I like to use an 18-egg foam carton when dismantling reels for keeping parts together. Also not a bad idea to take pics as you go, in case you get stuck during reassembly.

Ok so i went to the lake today and wow.... I had 2 centrifugal brakes and 7 magnetic brakes on and the spool tension set to where the lure just slowly falls.... and i got a backlash everycast (i changed the settings a little between casts but not drastically, just maybe 1,2 clicks tighter or so)..

Please don't say something like "practice everyday and loosen the brakes a little more each day".. I know how to use a baitcaster, and have been for 2+ years now. I can skip, pitch, and flip. I think i am just going to sell this reel and buy something i am more comfortable using

If a reel backlashes its on the user not the reel its called using your thumb. You could give me a reel and turn every brake off and I could cast it without backlashing.

If your not comfortable with then reel the sell it but I wouldnt blame the reel.

Many of us have been using baitcasters for 20+years.

Averagebass123 - At some point you have to just except that it might be you. If 15+ people tell you their settings and have no problems it's time to look into user error. There is no reason to have the mag on 7 and still backlash unless you're throwing into a 25mph wind lol. You've already admitted to adding oil without flushing which to me is your main problem and close behind is user error. Just because you've been fishing a baitcaster for 2yrs means nothing.  There is an old saying and it is this... Practice makes permanent.    Take golf for example. If your swing is mechanically all wrong it doesn't matter how much you practice. All your doing is training yourself to have a jacked up swing all of the time. Yes you may learn to play golf and possibly be decent at it but you'll have to compromise by aiming way left or ect. You get my drift I hope. This forum along with basically all forums is to learn and ask questions. You're not gaining anything by arguing with people. It makes it less likely they will wanna help you.  Just like cars. I've been building them for a long time and when these young kids ask my advice and I give it to them then they go and waste money on parts they don't need and high tech gadgets I learned to just not even say anything because it's like peeing in the wind.    Maybe you got a bad reel. It is possibly and we aren't completely counting that out but it seems to be more on your end and not the reels.

NO YOU DON't!    :Victory:

Are you setting the drop rate  (free spool) before you set the block/mags, if you are your ass backwards.

Turn the brakes/mags off, then set your drop rate. This is old school....... :eyebrows: . Then set your blocks, last your fine tuning the cast with the mags...

You also need to check the balance of your system.  Line rating, lure rating, all within the rods ratings

Now if you think you know it all after 2+ yrs, then I guess what I know after 30 yrs (I get some of my best BLs when I think I know it all).

I love novice anglers that cannot get the hang of a bait caster and ALWAYS blame the reel for their lack of practice or out of balance rod/reel systems..

Good luck to you & tight lines!  :fishing1:  OH practice, practice, practice, every day!
