It's wicked cheap, too. About $10 shipped for a 300 yard spool on fleabay. It's comparable to Yo-Zuri, right? I mean it's the same type of line with the same characteristics. Quote

I wrote Berkley about my troubles and dislikes of the line but they did not reply. I was not looking for my money back but did want to share my concerns. Floating should be posted on the box. Not a problem for guys who usually use weighted baits, but I like to toss the craw weightless as it seems to swim down a bit more naturally and I get snagged up in the rocks much less Quote
shootermcbob Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 The simple solution: Yo-Zuri Hybrid #6 Strong, smooth, stealthy and inexpensive. Performance is enhanced by using KVD Line & Lure Conditioner. Tried this line at Roadwarriors suggestion a few years ago. Have never looked back. I fish it on a 2500 size shimano stradic reel and have never, never had issues with it. It is very cost friendly, strong...breaks at 11.9 lbs...and casts very well. You can often find it on sale at fish 307, the long fin, and even that auction site has some great deals on this line. Last year I bought 8,000 yards for less than 30 bucks. Good luck with whatever you choose. Quote

Chuck D Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 If you fish subsurface then use sinking braid with a floro leader. The braid will last you a very long time and you'll get the benefit of floro in front of your bait for visibility without the "slinky" effect that straight floro wound on to a spinning reel arbor produces. Downsize your braid in to the 10# class as it's super strong and use the appropriate floro leader. I like sunline sniper FC as my floro and spider wire floro-braid sinks very nicely and has proven to be good stuff. Wind knots are just part of braid fishing so manage your line, coat it with a line conditioner like KVD line conditioner and it will handle even more smoothly. Quote

Ohio Dave Posted June 7, 2013 Author Posted June 7, 2013 Thanks again guys: I am fine with uni knots as I also fly fish. I shore fish 70-80% of the time as I am limited to a small john boat. In north central Ohio there are plenty of places that great bass can be caught from shore. the floating braid is great for low stretch but as there is almost always some wind to a lot of wind, the floating braid catching that wind drags me to shore in a heart beat and I can't have that. I guess for now I am going to stay with mono and live with the extra stretch. Quote

I've heard that before... In my experience, however, I didn't find braid to be all that much more manageable than mono - especially in wind. I'll agree the line was more sensitive, but I'm still not convinced that sensitivity is such that I was (or am) missing hits/fish. I've bombed out long casts into relatively deep water and, even with that much mono out, been able to feel 'light' bites and decisively hook/land fish. I'm not an evangelist for monofilament here, mind you. Just saying that my experimentation with braid has left me unimpressed. Like I said, I am going to give it a try again, mainly because I'm interested in being able to use a higher-visibility line color and have a clear leader tied on. Tying fluoro to hi-viz mono seems silly. Quote
