basskicker98 Posted June 1, 2013 Posted June 1, 2013 I love sharing knowledge. I hope you don't mind all the tip threads. Anyway..... I was fishing Crescent Lake in Raymond Maine. This lake is very heavily pressured and the bass won't hit a normal bait for #@$%. You gotta be original. So I'm only 15 but I have a few fishing buddies in the 30-50 y/o age range so I pick up some stuff from them. One of my old(er) fishing buddies has a brother who has fished at just about every level. We were fishing texas rigged lizards around some beds. The fish wouldn't hit. He casually grabs an old spinnerbait (he has a stash of old/broken ones) Takes off the blade and puts it on the texas rig under the worm. The change in the rig and the added flash did the trick. He ended up with a 5 pounder. I didn't do quite as well but I thought this tip was unique enough to share. 2 Quote
Super User Tuckahoe Joe Posted June 2, 2013 Super User Posted June 2, 2013 Hmm...I may give this a try. I've got a couple broken spinnerbaits lying around. Couldn't hurt, right? Quote

Dyerbassman Posted June 2, 2013 Posted June 2, 2013 I've tried this before, too, with a small Indiana blade on a small swivel while Texas rigging for an extra flash. Sometimes just a little something different can make a huge difference! Quote
The Commodore Posted June 2, 2013 Posted June 2, 2013 My brother has done this before. It does help on slow days. Quote
Super User Sam Posted June 2, 2013 Super User Posted June 2, 2013 Basskicker, you keep posting those tips and questions. Your age has nothing to do with it. Thanks for the tip. Quote
Super User Grizzn N Bassin Posted June 2, 2013 Super User Posted June 2, 2013 I'll do this next time I'm out where do you tie the blades to? Quote
Super User Deleted account Posted June 2, 2013 Super User Posted June 2, 2013 Glad it worked out, but I'm not following what he did... Quote

JeziHogg Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 My mind was blown the first time I saw an MJ rig. Quote
Jake... Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 I don't get it either, maybe a picture woule help. You said he took off the blade, but then stated the added "flash" helped the bass strike!? Quote
Super User Tuckahoe Joe Posted June 3, 2013 Super User Posted June 3, 2013 The impression that I got was either a rig similar to a Beetle Spin (http://www.basspro.com/Johnson-Original-Beetle-Spin/product/15602/?cmCat=CROSSSELL_PRODUCT) or maybe just attaching a swivel/blade to the hook eye with a split ring. Could be wrong though. Maybe the op will post a pic. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted June 3, 2013 Super User Posted June 3, 2013 Interesting. I would have never thought of that. Quote
lavbasser Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 Similar to the Talon Custom Lures Worm Blades? Quote
Dyerbassman Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 When I tried this, I rigged it this way. I put the hook through the head off the worm, like a normal texas rig. Then I slid a small swivel with a blade on the hook before putting the rest of the hook in the worm. So the swivel/blade was below the Texas rigged worm. It can help on a slow day. 1 Quote
basskicker98 Posted June 3, 2013 Author Posted June 3, 2013 Hey I see there is some confusion! I can post a pic later and describe it now. You have your blade... ok? So the you thread the blade with no swivel onto the hook, and then texas rig your plastic of choice. The blade hangs under the worm and flashes on the retrieve. Quote
Super User MCS Posted June 3, 2013 Super User Posted June 3, 2013 I have seen the humdinger keith poche power spinners, it is a screwin piece and I seen them used on a stick bait. While I was looking at them I saw Owner has something similar to what was described above, think they are called flashy accents, having a swivel instead of the screw lock. I like the idea of the swivel on the hook like post 16 mentions. Quote
