airborne_angler Posted June 1, 2013 Posted June 1, 2013 I'm wondering...because in Az we can only have 2 baits with hooks...so if a person is throwing an A Rig with 5 arms and only 2 have hooks, wouldn't that just get aggravating to have fish chomping at the dummy baits, knowing there's no way of hooking up on the strikes...guess its just a "hope" thing...never knowing which bait will get bit, hoping the fish will hit a bait with a hook in it...throwing a 3 arm rig would really up the chances in that situation. War Eagle 44 Posted June 1, 2013 Posted June 1, 2013 Well most guys that live in states where they limit the number of hooks you can use usually try and do their best to make the baits with the hooks stand out so as to increase their likelihood of being the baits eaten. Either they simply use larger baits on the arms with the hooks or different colors, just something that makes them stand out. I know some guys shorten the arms that can't use hooks so the baits with hooks hang back farther. There are plenty of different ways to go about trying to cut down on the frustration of not having hooks in all the baits, these are the only few I can think of at the moment. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 1, 2013 Global Moderator Posted June 1, 2013 why not just use the 2 bait rig? The fewer baits the less effective they are it seems. I've thrown the YUM double up rig and just have not had much luck. I've done alright with an A rig with 3 baits but really well with all 5 baits. I don't know why this is, maybe the more baits just makes it harder for fish to notice all the hardware the rig is sporting but it's been true for me since I've starting fishing them. Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted June 1, 2013 Super User Posted June 1, 2013 I don't throw them yet but it seems those who do have noticed a pattern on which bait gets hit. If you're using a 5 arm rig, placing a bait of larger size or different color on 1 arm seems to result in that one arm getting hit the most. So even though you can only have 2 hooks, you can employ a few tricks to make them effective Quote
Super User deep Posted June 1, 2013 Super User Posted June 1, 2013 It's frustrating only if you don't know how/ when to use it. CA has a 3 hook rule. Look up Matt Allen's video on youtube. He talks about using 5 and 7 wire rigs. Quote
