What brand of glasses do you use?  I don't want to spend $200 if I dont have to.  Are the more expensive one's really worth it?

I hear the new Strike King's are pretty good and about 40 bucks...never owned any over 50 dollars myself

Check out the new Strike King S11 glasses.  They are pretty amazing for the price.  I picked up a pair with the amber lenses and love them.

I have been wearing Costas for two years and don't plan to change.  They let me see stuff in the water that the guy in the back has no idea that is there.

I picked up a pair or SpiderWire 1mm polarized shades at Walmart the other day for $16, and they work great!

I am a HUGE fan of the new S11 Sunglasses by Strike King.  If I had to choose one pair it would be one with the amber-ish lens.  I do own both now though.  For the price point it works exceptionally well.  Compared to the other cheapy ones I bought at WalMart there is no comparison.

Ironically there is a single WalMart in my area which now carries the S11's but I didn't see any amber lensed ones.

As for price.  I got mine for $25 a piece.  Some places are still selling them for over $40 which is still a decent price IMO but $25 is much better. :)

Mind sharing where? Was it at Wal-Mart too?

I'm a broke SOB and I picked up the even cheaper Berkley's (on my 3rd pair because I keep losing them). They seem to work fine, but they scratch pretty easily. I'm curious if the more expensive ones work better in low light conditions.

no, unfortunately not. they work great in FL sun, but are too dark to be used effectively as it starts to get darker :( i'm looking for glasses that are polarized and barely dimmed...

I wear costa's with 580 glass lense in amber. They way I look at is I wear sunglass everyday for usually 5+ hours a day living in Florida and I only have one set of eyes. A nice pair of glasses cost less then what most people spend on one rod and reel.

Bolle' makes a "tactical" line. I don't like the name tactical but I used them in the Navy and they were great.

I use fishgillz I got them for a two for one deal and absolutely love them plus they float

I totally agree!  I have several pair of Costa's.  One Blue Mirror, for Gulf fishing;  one Green Mirror for freshwater, both are 580GLASS.  And a 3rd pair of Amber in 580Polycarbonate.

Definitely well worth the money.  I did a LOT of research on sunglasses and talked to several eye doctors.  Most cheap glasses do NOT protect against the different rays.

A good analogy would be a comparision with motorcycle helmets.  I've ridden for years and have found the extra money spent on a good helmet is well deserved.....so I went to Arai and Shoei. How much is your head worth?

Just how much do you think your pair of eyes is worth?  Going cheap is not really an option here.....for me.

DO NOT skimp on glasses....the higher end glasses have more protection and better clarity...your eyes are one of your most important things on your body and sun can dmg them good and if you lose your sight because of sun dmg you wont be fishing at all lol...so skimp on something besides eye protection

I've worn Oakley's for years and have always been happy with them. Ive probably had 8 pair over the past 15 years, I wear them everyday and they always hold up well. I take care of my glasses though. The polarized lenses do cost more but are well worth it. I am considering Costas for my next glasses purchase though. Get a good pair of glasses, take care of them and they will take care of you. Don't skimp on glasses.

I have a pair of Costas and a pair of Maui Jim's.. I love them both.. I put cablz on them when I'm on the water..

Spend the money.

You have to protect your eyes, no matter the cost.

I was at the Sheltering Arms Wellness Fair on Saturday (June 1) and met the nice ladies from the Richmond Eye Institute.

They told me that for fishing they strongly recommend the "amber" family of colors.

They even stock the Maui frames for the fishermen that are patients.

I was really impressed as I have driven by the Institute for years but never gave it a thought that they had a specific area for fresh and saltwater fishermen's sunglasses needs. I plan to go there to get my new sunglasses based on my updated prescription and to discuss styles and lens colors with them.

I know you can go into any tackle store or sunglasses retail outlet and discuss your fishing sunglasses but this is an eye institute that specailzes in eye care and laser procedures so it will be interesting to speak with a medical professional and not a sales clerk.

I will let you know what they tell me.

I may even get up the courage for a lasik procedure one day.

Good sunglasses are as important to me as my paddle in my kayak.  I do not like amber lenses myself as they are not the best in lowlight conditions.  My preference is something in the Rose Copper family with a mirrored lens.  It gives you the best in all conditions and is especially good in lower light situations where an amber lens will be to dark.

Also unless the medical staff fishes then i really don't put to much weight on what they are saying because they are just regurgitating what is told to them by the various other sales reps of the glasses.

I picked up a pair of Costa 580s in green mirror and i see no need to change out or try another brand as they are better than the various others i have used like, Smith, Oakley, Native, Maui Jim etc....

i like my costas in green mirror for sandy bottoms inshore and blue mirror for offshore/freshwater

Costa and Maui and old Oakley.  The clarity of the 580G lens is ridiculous.  I have the Blackfins and they cover my eyes pretty well.  Don't get cheap with sunglasses.  Get a strap so they do not fall in the water and just take care of them.

I have been really REALLY impressed with the SK S11's I bought a couple months ago. I have been wearing them non-stop....work, fishing, every where. They have not scratched yet!! And I am not easy on glasses. I am also seeing things in the water I never saw before, and stuff I did see before with much better clarity than I ever did with the $15-$20 Berkley or SK glasses I used to wear. I am convinced. And you can't beat the price of $40.
