Goaltender Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 Hoping for some help guys. My brother-in-law and I joined the BWSTA this year fishing the Lake of the Ozarks. The next 3 tourney dates (June, July, and August) are at night, 8pm to 7am. Looking for tips on what to throw and where to throw it. I am assuming the bass will move shallow at night and feed along the docks, once the boat traffic dies down. Thought of flippin' a weightless senko, worm, or fluke around the bigger docks. What do you think? Do I need to invest in the fluorescent line and black lites and fish the shores - drop shot the deep points/drop offs - or will fishing around the condo docks will be the bomb? Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 30, 2013 Global Moderator Posted May 30, 2013 Big, dark colored worms and jigs around the same docks that hold fish during the day should be good. They will often just be shallower but in the same general areas. Spinnerbaits with single colorado blades for lots of thump and chatterbaits are good search baits to cover lots of water quickly. Never fished a senko or fluke at night but I'm sure they'll eat them. Quote

Bluebasser86 is pretty spot on with his comments. When the water gets real warm later on in the Summer, big texas rigged soft plastics in black/red flake at night were what they keyed in on best for me. Shallow logs, deep brush piles, it didn't seem to matter. Find the cover, find the bass. Wiggle warts have also consistently produced on Summer nights. Quote
born2fish94 Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 i live close to a lake that during the summer is a huge party lake. and its small so its worthless fishing during the day in the summer. so honestly all we do is night fish. Its a really good spotted bass lake so i lures maybe a lil different but this is what i throw on my rods everytime im night fishing: 1.black and blue spinnerbait with a single colorado blade with a blue zoom super chunk trailer (i know its a flipping trailer, but trust me it works, dont ask), 2. black buzzbait 3. 3/8 oz black and blue all terrain rattling jig 4. carolina rig 5.texas rig. My soft plastics vary but i've really fallen in love with rage tail baits at night. I'm gonna have to try a black and blue chatter bait soon. Quote
Goaltender Posted June 27, 2013 Author Posted June 27, 2013 Well my 1st tournament is in the books. It did not go as well as I had hoped. The plan to fish points early was killed to high wind and boat traffic. Moved to the boat docks with no success, then back to the points @ 2am. Caught a lot of fish but only two keepers, a 2 and 4 pounder. The results aren't official yet but there were LOTS of limits and teams over 17 pounds. The Hibdon's also fished the tourney which made it both cool and intimidating. Sooooo, after watching Ike's video, I'm going practice drop shotting the next week to see if I can find the big boys.
