Rich. Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 I'm looking to purchase a setup to use for hollow body frogs. I am interested in the Lew's Super Duty reel but need a rod to pair this with, any recommendations? Also, any idea when the next time most retailers will offers sales/discounts like seen on Memorial Day? Quote
Megastink Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 My personal frog rod is a Powell Endurance 714 CEF. Its 7'1" Heavy entra fast action. It has the slightest bit of play in the tip, perfect for frogging. Its also very sensitive (not that that really matters) and is super lightweight (which REALLY matters). They retail for $170, but The Fish Ranger has them for $109, free shipping right now!!!!!! Quote
Arv Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 I use a MH/F Veritas w/ 50# braid but I really don't throw frogs much. Megastink mentioned the Powell Endurance, which I have 2 of. Thats one of my favorite rods and at 109 thats an awesome deal. Quote
FloridaBassDude Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 4th of July will be your best bet for a sale. About the frogging rod cant help sorry. Quote
Ktedz Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 I use a 7.6" skeet reese heavy cover with micro guides. 65lb braid on a diawa megaforce 7.2:1 baitcaster Quote

martintheduck Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 Crucial med/hvy worm/jig rod, x-fast taper. Quantum code 7:4 (i believe) reel. jump between 50lb braid spider braid and 20 lb vanish fluro. Works fine. Probably need to use a beefier rod than I am to help with setting hooks in slop. Quote
BrettD Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 I use a 7-3 heavy fast rod with 65# braid. Im 6-1 if I was any shorter I would want a 7' rod. Quote
Super User aavery2 Posted May 30, 2013 Super User Posted May 30, 2013 I own a few frog rods, the one I am currently using is a Jason Christie signature series Falcon Cara frog rod. It is a 6'11" H/F. I use a gen2 STX 6.4:1 I have it spooled with 60lb. Sunline FX2. This combo meets my needs well. Quote
rbreedi1 Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 Dobyns 735C .. I have the savvy series and love it Quote
flippin and pitchin Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 Lews Super Duty 7.1 to 1 #50 Power Pro Dobyns Savvy 735C Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 The best frog rod IMO is a heavy power with a fast and relatively soft tip. You want the backbone without sacrifcing casting distance. Match it to a sturdy reel with heavy braid as suggested. 1 Quote
Craiger12 Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 x3 on the Dobyns 735C. I have the Champion because I prefer the full handle, but I have heard good things about the Savvy as well. Quote

Bass Junkie Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 Duckett Micro Magic 7' XH. It has a semi-parabolic bend throughout the blank, allowing you to really load up and chuck frogs, as well as skip a lot easier. But it also has all the necessary muscle to set the hook plus some. And it is certainly strong enough to pull fish out of the mats. It's also a versatile rod. I've thrown as low as a 1/4oz jig with trailer, and while It wasn't ideal, I got respectable distance. It makes a very nice topwater spook/frog/wakebait rod when spooled up with braid. Quote
