HMGBASSER Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 Who here used solid black jigs for bass only n why just wanted opinions? Beside water clearity? Quote
bleedingshrimp Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 I am very fond of black and black and blue jigs with matching dark trailers. I fish alot of stained water, and a good bit at night. I like the contrast it provides and its partially a confidence thing. I may throw black in a situation where another color is better suited simply because black gives me confidence. Quote
Super User Grizzn N Bassin Posted May 30, 2013 Super User Posted May 30, 2013 I use a black jig all the time. I like it for night fishing.. I've done well with it.. also I've used it during the day in stained / muddy water also have done well.. trailer mine with fatty craw black/ blue.. or at night I like pork Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted May 30, 2013 Super User Posted May 30, 2013 I only go black in chocolate milk looking water but even then theres a bit of purple in the skirt. Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted May 30, 2013 Super User Posted May 30, 2013 I've never used one, but companies sell them and have them in their line up. I always opt for some color so I can have just a few jigs that will cover most anything. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted May 30, 2013 Super User Posted May 30, 2013 I use a solid black jig a lot, in fact I even tie all black hair jigs because it will work in clear or dirty water. I call black and white universal colors as they work in all water clarity and they are both natural colors but I prefer the black when it comes to bottom contact baits. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted May 30, 2013 Super User Posted May 30, 2013 Black is a universal color. I suspect a black jig with a blue trailer is the most popular combination and is probably used more than all other colors combined. Quote
Arv Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 I have a few but honestly I've never used them. I always use black and blue/purple Quote
fowlskies Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 I never used black jigs that much until this spring I picked up a 1/2 oz Strike king pro model jig, the skirt is a metallic blue on the outside and the inside of the strands are black, it is now one of my favorites to throw...along with the same jig with a watermelon and pumpkin skirt and orange strands on the bottom, these have been my go to jigs this season. I like them enough that I went back and picked up a few more in both colors. A Rocket craw in the color Perfection Green fleck is a thing of beauty on the green jig...and a Pit Boss in the color Skywalker on the black one is an awesome combination. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted May 30, 2013 Super User Posted May 30, 2013 I use black and black/red a lot in murky water, and sometimes in stained water if the fish want that color. In clear water I will use natural looking colors. Quote
HeavyDluxe Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 The primary pond I fish is mountain spring fed. Gin clear to the N'th degree. I've pulled plenty of fish out on the brightest of days on black, black/blue, black/purple plastics. I'm new to jib fishing this year, but my first two jig fish (caught this past weekend) were caught on the same pond with a black/blue jig. Take that with more than the appropriate grain of salt, but there you go. Quote
Super User eyedabassman Posted May 31, 2013 Super User Posted May 31, 2013 I guide at night and I fish alot of deep water and a black 3/4 or 1oz.jig slow rolled on deep weedlines will get your rod jerked out of your hands!!!!!!!!!!!!! Quote
