Super User Chris at Tech Posted May 28, 2013 Super User Posted May 28, 2013 Your reel should have come with a few small plastic shims. They look like washers. You need to add a few shims to the spool shaft to get the line o play evenly. It'll likely take some trial and error to get the proper line lay Quote
Super User .RM. Posted May 28, 2013 Super User Posted May 28, 2013 You need to find the 3 (RD3455 spool washers), disks that came with the reel... Then remove all 3 from in front of the spool support/clicker (RD1427). Start your spooling of the line and watch if the line loads to the front of the spool add 1 disk.. Repeat the spooling and if the line is still loading to the front, add a 2nd disk. Repeat until the line lays evenly onto the spool. If you don't have the 3 disks already in place, and, you cannot locat them in the box contact Shimano and have them ship yopu 3 of the disk part numbered above.. Good Luck & Tight Lines! Quote
Super User Marty Posted May 28, 2013 Super User Posted May 28, 2013 I agree, adding/subtracting washers can even up the line on a spool. However, what I would do first is make a few casts on the water and retrieve with real lures to see if the same spool unevenness is still there. Quote

Seldom do I have a tackle shop load up a new reel for me, as they remove the spool and place it on a machine then spool it up using a tool, a perfect line placement is always obtained. I've seen that go awry once I got onto the water. Un even spooling is a common problem, if it wasn't many companies would not include shims with a new reel. Quote
