airborne_angler Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 When I first saw these rods at Dicks, first thing that came to mind was "Generic." I took a look at them and was actually impressed at how they looked and felt. Price on one of 7'0" casting models was like $29.That's decent in my book if it performs as well as it looks and feels. I've done some looking online and Wiki Answers says these rods are built by Shimano...can anyone confirm or deny this? Quote
MyKeyBe Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 Not sure on those (guessing Inferno) rods. For what it's worth I have a Tec Spec and love it. For $60.00 it's a great rod. Quote
OkeechobeeAngler Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 I was told that they were made by Shimano also. I asked about it here awhile back and I believe I was told they were'nt. Quote
Dyerbassman Posted May 27, 2013 Posted May 27, 2013 Just picked up a 7' Tec Spec today for 39.99 with the online coupon. Seems pretty nice, for the price. I'll try it out this week Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted May 27, 2013 Super User Posted May 27, 2013 i'd get the blue micro guide 0ne.for the money they seem ok. Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted May 28, 2013 Super User Posted May 28, 2013 I own one of the new red 6'6" Spinning rod. I use it all the time when running around banks. That includes hiking through some stuff. A the price I was expecting it to possibly snap on me but so far so good. Got some good fish on this thing and it has held up very well. Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted May 28, 2013 Super User Posted May 28, 2013 I bought one of the original tech spec rods a few years ago and used it pretty heavily as a bank rod for the last 2-3 years. For the price they are pretty good rods but I started having problems the end of last year and has since been replaced. The reel seat has become worn and the reel is now loose on it, its very hard to keep the reel secure, even with it locked down as tight as possible it still is loose. Quote

It cost me a nice fish the other day and I almost went Ike and chucked the set up but I didn't I have a revo sx on it that'd the only thing that kept that rid from not getting launched. It now sits with out a reel in my back room Quote
ChiCityBasser Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 I have one of the old style 7' MH/F spinning rig & jig models and I'm very impressed with how it has performed over the last couple of years. Very sensitive either with braid or flouro and haven't had a problem with the reel seat or any of the rod components. I also picked up one of the blue micro guide rods and it reels good but haven't used it enough to give any opinions on it just yet. Quote
Brock Grigsby67 Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 I have the 7'6 heavy and i love it. I have caught tons of fish on it and i haven't had a problem with it Quote
primetime Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 I purchased an inexpensive 6'6 med light spinning rod combo at Dicks a few years ago, and I use that spinning rod at least 2-3 hours per week, and this is either year 4 or 5, and for casting along the bank from shore, on a Kayak, I have to say it sure feels like a Rod that would cost in the $50-$70 range IMO. I think it says Jimmy Houston on the one I have, or that could be the 5'6 I use to cast into tight spots from the bank while pond fishing.... I have found that you can get really nice Rods in the $25-$79 Range if you look for closeouts and I always buy overstocks from the previous year, so I am ok being a few months behind everyone else. I am not going to compare my field and stream rod to a Falcon Rod I have, but I would put it up against some of the Rods that are popular and sell for $50-$80 like say a Daiwa, Abu, Berkley rod which are all good so I am not knocking any product, I was just commenting last week that I am surprised that rod is in my rotation as I only purchased it when I left my stuff at home and just needed something for a weekend. I also have a spinning reel I think came with it called a Fish Hunter, has 5 bearings, and the reel has outlasted my Pfueger Supreme, and Procyon, so go figure....If you want to find a deal on a spinning reel, the abu Garcia Orra S which looks identical to this years Revo can be had online for $30-$40 and I no longer say the President or Shimano/Mitchell 300 are best reels for under $50......Tackle Warehouse has Carrot Stix rods and also some nice Dobyns rods but I picked up 2 carrot sticks and maybe I am just not that into rods, but I can't see the rods in the $200-$300 range being worth it as the difference that I notice is not all that much. $64, and $88 for $150 Stix which are super light pair up nicely with a small and light Okuma CItrix, Lews BB1. I would not suggest locking down the tightening ring with a pliers, you may crack it or make it difficult to remove the reel. I have rods that have needed a shim, now they are perfect. I just re tighten the ring as needed, it takes no time at all. 1 Quote
HardcoreBassin Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 I have the 7'6 heavy and i love it. I have caught tons of fish on it and i haven't had a problem with it hey I know this post is from a while back, but I was just looking at this rod last night. It doesn't say what action the rod is. Feels a lot like a moderate action to me. What type of baits do you use it for? Thanks - Dale Quote
DaleGribble Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 They don't have actions listed iirc. only powers. Heavy rod of that size is likely extra fast but could be fast. These rods and the newer ahigher price point arsenal versions of the rods are awesome though. Quote

Retired@176 Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 In June of this yr. I picked up a F&S Inferno 6'6" med. action, line wt. 6-12lb., lure wt. 1/4-5/8oz. 2 piece spinning combo at DSG's for $50.. Put 15Lb. PP on the Shimano (4bearing) Syncopate 2500FG mounted on the rod and procededed to use this set up to re-learn fishing. This because after a 40+yr. haiatus from fishing and after much re education via BR I wanted an inexpensive set up after all I finally retired to my lake front home. Let me tell you this combo has caught at least 30 bass (dinks -3lb) several pickerill and a couple pan fish from my dock. It has 5 guides plus tip and a 12" split grip EVA handle. I still occasionall use it when walking the shoreline, think you can get just the rod at DSG's for $30 a great value for the beginner. The model # is FEHIS66MS 2500 and I think the tip is fast. Quote
WPCfishing Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 I have a black 6'6" medium fast. I primarlily use it with light swim jigs, 1.5 square bills and lipless cranks. Rod cast great, it's well balanced and comfortable. I also have an Elite blue 6'10" heavy with micro guides. I use it for a veriety of 1/2oz+ baits. It's very lite at just 4oz. The Elite rod has a lot of back bone. They don't get a lot of use but I do I like both of them. Quote
Megastink Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 I have a 6'6" Light action that I use for trout. I absolutely love it. I paid $50 for mine. It has the green blank. Quote
WPCfishing Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 I have a 6'6" Light action that I use for trout. I absolutely love it. I paid $50 for mine. It has the green blank. The 6' 10" Heavy Elite I bought was on sale for half price, the store had them orange tagged for half of that. I got it for $20.00....... It's as nice as any $100.00 rod. Even better than some.... I know they offer a 7'6" heavy, I'd like to get my hands one. The stores around me don't stock it. Before I bought them I had done a little research. All the articles I read stated they were mad in Canada. I was kinda pumped. I was a little disappointed when I saw the made in China sticker.. in the end it didn't matter.. it's a nice rod. Quote
