I've been using VMC short shank size 4 and the hookup is good with these hooks.  However, since this lure is short in length, the trebles do tend to get fouled up.

If you use this lure, what trebles are you using?  I was thinking of using wide gap short shank Mustad KVD or Bill Lewis size 6...but not sure.

I use this lure ALL THE TIME.  Although the hooks do get caught on each other from time to time, I have never put much thought in to switching them out to avoid it.  It doesnt happen that often to me, so no worries

THAT is an awesome crankbait.  that is my go to crank in wading waters!!!!

Never used the bait, but have often thought about picking one up.  What you might do is switch out your back hook to a size 6.  That way you still have a big hook up front, but should zero out all of your tangles.

I'd recommend switching out the stock hooks for the Mustad KVD's in a size you feel comfortable with. You won't be disappointed, as they will serve your purpose well, and they are a very good treble!

The KVD'S are great hooks. If you don't like EWG trebles, try the Gamakatsu short shank, round bend trebles with the "Magic Eye." I use the KVD'S most of the time but the Gami's are awesome hooks and sharper than the Mustads.

Here's a nice bass, I'm guessing in the 3 lb range using The Egg with VMC short shank trebles.  No problem hooking onto bass, I've had only on a few occasions have a bass pop off the lure, most times they are hooked good.

I took one of The Egg's I have and installed size 6 KVD short shank trebles.  The hooks still get tangled but doesn't seem to happen as much, I won't have a chance to try The Egg w/ the KVD's till this Friday...

On mine I started taking off the front trebble and upsized to a #2 Mustad KVD on the back. Its big enough to still hookup but dont have to worry about tangles. It also helps keeping hangups to a minimum when they crash off of timber/rocks.

Hmmm...I like that idea.  I guess a front treble isn't really needed with that short of a body crankbait.  I'll have to do one of the other The Eggs I have with the one size 2 KVD hook.  I also do have a size 2 Gamakatsu short shank treble, that should work too, right?

Ok, I put on a size 2 KVD on one of The Eggs...interesting.  I'll try both modifications this Friday.  Thanks for responding.
