Jigs Without Rattles?

Hey everyone. Basic question here. Do youuse rattle jigs, or unrattled? If you dont use rattles how do you fish them and catch fish? I have always used a rattle and caught fish but everytime i dont use a rattle i can catch anything. Someone please help.

I like rattles in muddy to murky water. If I want some noise in other types of water I usually add one of the small glass rattles in the trailer. This seems to work for me.

I fish without rattles 98% of the time but when I do use rattles I fish them the same as I do without rattles.  The only time I use rattles is in really muddy and dirty water.

I took care of the double post for ya!  But to answer your question, I never fish rattles.  Just me. And I fish some dirty water.  I have a buddy who only fishes rattles.  Even in clear water.  I think it is a confidence thing and you certainly have confidence in the rattles.  So make sure you always have plenty on hand!

I buy jigs, with rattles attached to the hook shank. My buddy started a local bait company and i gotta few test jigs in awesome colors, but they do not have rattles so i fished them for hours on end and never hooked up . How do you work them? I dont understand why i have so much trouble lol. Thanks for the double post help

Give Mike a shout at Siebert Outdoors.  He sell just the rattles, and I am sure he will sell you the rattle bands as well.  That way you can add rattles to any jig you want!

Easiest way to add a rattle is to use a trailer like a Tiny Paca Craw (Which is hollow) and stuff one of sphere rattles in it.  Wont come out and makes your bait rattle.  I fish jigs same way, drag or hop off ground with or without rattle

It's probably just a confidence thing. I fish some really dirty river water and rarely if ever use rattles and a jig is one of my "go to" baits for a bite. Just get some rattle bands so your fishing isn't hindered.

I use rattles in heavy cover and dirty water, sometimes. The craws that you're mainly trying to imitate with a jig don't rattle and bass don't have any problem finding them. Most of the time I don't use one though.

Last year I had been using North Star jigs. Black blue pro series. They came with rattles and my catch rate was pretty decent. I had placed another order for jigs and went on fishing them catch rate stayed the same.

Fast forward 6 months. Was browsing the board and noticed a thread asking when did North Star remove the rattles. I checked my jigs and sure enough they didn't have em.

After that, I kinda never put much more thought and faith in the rattles. Most of the water I fish around here is pretty dirty too. I'm not saying they don't have their place in the jig market, but for me and my experience they did really make a difference.

Think of it this way, it can't hurt to put one on.

x2.  more likely the jig bite just wasn't 'on' that day and ur associating lack of success with lack of rattles.

There are times when a rattle can turn them off I think! I have fished a jig alot, with rattles and some days the jig bite does not seem to be on! But before I put the jig rod down I have a jig without rattles and there have been many times they start to bite the non rattle jig, it has saved me more than once and saved some tournaments for me! I am not sure why one ( same lake )day they bite the rattle jig good and the next day no! Buy be before you give up on the jig try both!

Unless It's extremely dirty water or at night I don't fish rattles.

Using rattles on slow subsurface presentations like jigs and/or soft plastics can often help at night or in low light conditions, dirty water, deeper water that is stained, in heavy grass and cover or while when fishing soft bottoms. I'm not a fan of using them in clean water, clear conditions and/or dragging rocks.

I have used them in the past, and have not noticed anything advantageous about them. When you mix in the fact that with the way many rattles are attached to the jig threading on trailers becomes more difficult, they seem even less attractive. Just my view.

 Here is something for you to think about and is often over looked. The jig it's self makes noise every time it hits the bottom. The more cover or the harder the bottom the more noise it is going to make. If you want to make more noise with it bounce it off the bottom more. Rattles or no rattles the jig is making noise. That bit of info might give you the confidence next time you are throwing it.

I don't think I have even one jig that has rattles. Maybe I'll try one someday.

I never use rattles. If I buy a jig with rattles I may use it for a while and then remove the rattles.  Where I fish I don't think it makes that much difference.

I did like the rattles And felt weird not using them. Now with my rattle broken off my favorite jig I used it with no rattles and had great success so now its doesn't matter.. unless its low light or muddy.. but I usually use a big 1 oz charter bait for that

I can't tell a difference. I think you get more from the action of the trailer and skirt and kicking up dirt on the bottom. Just my observations.

I fish with and without and can't tell much of a difference. I feel more confident with a rallte in stained waters.
