Basscook Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 I have a Pflueger that I just always endes up in my hands. (On a BP IM6) It is just my comfort rod and it goes well with my main go too bait. Plastics. Quote
Fishwhittler Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 It was grinding out the box before I put anything on it. Wanted to see if oil would help. I dropped oil on the gear that makes the guide go back and forth and inside the where the spool sits. It didn't help didn't make it worse either. From the wording of your previous post, it sounded as though you had oiled the drive gears. The level-wind should be oiled as well as anything related to the spool, so that's fine (though the parts should have been cleaned prior to oiling to remove the old lube). However, it won't help the grinding because that's coming from the brass gears inside the gearbox. Here's the Aird schematic: I'm guessing you oiled #16 and #48. The parts that needed lubrication were probably #61 (drive gear) and #33 (pinion gear). Quote
dam0007 Posted June 5, 2013 Author Posted June 5, 2013 Haha yes those are the 2 parts I re lubed. I moderately cleaned both with qtips to get some of the factory grease off. Basically the best I could without taking it apart. I had a brain fart on the 'level wind' part name. Quote
THE BASS WHISPERER Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Pretty much for free via a return and Cabelas points I grabbed a reel. Checked out a revo, quantum and helios(which is awesome). Ended up grabbing the daiwa aird. Fell in love with the reel after 30 seconds playing with it. Actually I live it so much I grabbed the matching aird rod 6'6 m/f. Don't tell my wife. Lol lol lol ive gotta quantum smoke 731 love it SHHHHHHHH ! while you getting a new reel , i was hanging out with your wife!!!!!!!!!! LMAO just jokes enjoy the new reel bud. Quote
rubba bubba Posted June 6, 2013 Posted June 6, 2013 Many times (arguably most of the time) smoothness of a reel is dictated by how clean/lubed the worm drive is as it readily collects small particles and is not easy to clean correctly. I've had countless reels that felt grindy until I took the worm drive apart and cleaned them thoroughly. Problem is, that's not quick and easy to get to. You can do a poor mans clean by getting some degreaser in there and compressed air, which will help. Quote
