I need to get a rod that will handle crankbaits anywhere from dt16 to Norman's dd22 and SK 6xd. TW has a sale on the Rc cranking (thinking maybe the 7' heavy?) and the daiwa ballistic 7'2" MH cranking. It will be paired with a PQ 4.7:1 reel.

Which one would you choose between these 2?

It will solely be between the 2 models. I am not interested in saving up money or buyin any other rod.

I would go with the Daiwa. I've heard those Clunn rods are pretty heavy but I've never held either one to compare. That ballistic looks sweet.

I've got the RC. Yes, it's heavier. Can't beat the price and I like it for deep baits.

I have the daiwa 7'7" M and i use it for deep cranks. Its only rated up to 3/4oz but i have thrown 1oz cranks on it. Ive held tthe RCs and they are heavy and bulky, but if you go that route there is a 7'8 model that would def deep cranking duties.

I like a longer rod for deep cranks. It def helps with getting a longer cast. I just wish that the ballistic had a 7'11 MH or H ... it is a decent rod for the price.

Good point with the longer rod length but I forgot to mention in my op that I am restricted to 7'3" or less as that is the longest rod length that will fit in the rod locker without bending. Thanks for the input

In that case, heres a vote for the 7'2 Ballistic. It would also be an excellent fit for larger shallow cranks and lipless cranks. I have handled that rod and like it. I am a Powell man, but for cranking rods im not as picky.

I use the Mojo "Big Cranster", never been so happy with a deep cranking rod, makes fishing big, hard pulling baits very easy. Mine is paired with a 5.2 PQ.

I have the mojo big crankster as well and love it as well. Took a little experimenting with line but its everything I could ask for in a deep cranking stick. I think you will be working too hard with those rod choices, wanting to throw those bigger, deeper baits. Plus, the additional length of a rod will alow for longer casts and longer time for the bait to stay at its max depth. Just something to think about.
