Hey everyone!!

My name is Mark. I'm new here of course. I come from south eastern Wisconsin...Kenosha to be exact. So I've fished since I was a kid but nothing too extreme. Recently I'm becoming more active in the fishing world as I enjoy it a lot! But as any other person new to this, I need some help. I went fishing tonight, just some fake worms and came up dry. I think I'm doing it all wrong between the right colors for conditions to technique to proper bait. I don't if its better to use bait or no bait. More less I need everyone's help!!! lol :embarassed2:

I just got a new reel too! kinda excited about it!! It is a Bass Pro Shop's 2012 Extreme Matrix Carbon Fiber Bait caster. I need to find some good line and a nice rod for a reasonable price (some guidance would be great) Sorry If I'm all over the place here I just need a lot of help lol

Other than Fishing I enjoy being a FireFighter. It is a passion of mine and enjoy every minute of it. I also enjoy Cars/Trucks and Harleys. Camping and any other outdoor activities are a blast to me. I'm a young guy, only 22 lol.

I hope everyone has a safe and wonderful Memorial Day Weekend!!!

Look forward to the help and input! :)

Mark

Hey Mark. Welcome to the Forum.

We are here to give you our input and assist you in any way we can.

As for selecting a rod, be sure the rod's specifications stamped on the rod match the bait weight and line test you will be throwing.

A medium heavy 6'6" or longer, such as 7', is an excellent selection.

The BPS Extreme rods are an excellent choice until you read more about rods and then decide on a more expensive variety.

Take care and thank you for being a fireman. We all appreciate what you do for everyone in very serious situations.

Line test depends on the type of presentation, structure in the water and bait.

Type of Presentation - Baitcaster or Spinning rig?

Structure in the Water - Grass, wood, stumps, mud, sand, all of 'em?

Bait - Topwater, under the surface (wake bait), 1 to 4 feet (Bandit 100), 4 to 8 feet (Bandit 200) and deeper/on the bottom.

Way too much data to try to give you guidance. May I suggest watching the Sunday fishing shows plus reading the articles in the Articles section at the top of the Forum page.

"Search" for "line" on the Forum and you will find hundreds of line suggestions.

May I suggest putting that topwater away and get some Senkos and 1/0 weedless hooks on 8 pound flourocarbon line (of your choice) and watching YouTube on rigging a Senko "Texas" style and "Wacky Rigged."  Go with Wacky Rigged Senkos and have some fun.

After casting the Senko, let it sit on the bottom for about 5-seconds and then using your rod tip move the Senko off the bottom and let it flutter down. Remember, 6-inches of rod tip movement = 1-foot of bait movement.

Watch your line. The bass will pick up the Senko and start to "walk away" with it. When this happens point your rod tip at the place where the bait should be in the water, reel in the slack, and set the hook hard over your head.

Somje bass will inhale the Senko and just sit there with it in their mouth. When this happens set the hook ASAP.

If the Senko feels "DIFFERENT" set the hook!

Senko sizes? - 4, 5 and 6 inchers.

Senko colors? - #297 - Green Pumpkin with Black Flake

Senko fishing is a great way to start bass fishing.

Good luck and let us know how you do.
