My 7' 10" KVD graphite rod broke 6 inches off the end in the door at home. Put a new end eye on it. Also had to put a piece of black tape around the end because it splintered. It still reels smooth but it is super stiff at the end of the rod now. Is it toast or will it be okay?

I wouldn't continue using it like that. It functions but it isn't optimal.

I am glad you got this resolved so favorably. In the future you should always try to work with the

retailer first. I have always had a great experience with Walmart, Cabelas, Bass Pro Shops and

most retail companies. They will try to do what's right, but that doesn't always mean they can

replace things when we screw up!

Glad everything went Ok for you.  It's probably not the first time that they have exchanged a broken rod.

If you are unable to return a broken rod (I know you did), break it off so it is half the original length, spool an old reel with heavy braid, lock the drag down, and use it as a plug knocker.

You learned two life lessons regarding your damaged rod.

First, be more careful where you place the rod when storing and using it.

Second, sometimes a retailer will help you if  you ask for their help.

We all have, or will, damage our equipment sooner or later. This is a normal aspect of fishing and is to be expected.

Glad you and a positive outcome.

Some of the posts have illustrated poor outcomes.

From a marketing aspect, do you realize that it can take up to nine-years for a consumer to go back to a product that has failed or the company's service is not acceptable? Plus the fact that for every individual unhappy with an outcome they will tell at least ten additional individuals about their negative experience?

This is why many companies want to do the right  thing, even if they are totally innocent from causing the damages and we are negligent in handling our equipment.

Now rig up; go out; and catch something!

Thats one good thing about walmart the are really relaxed about returns.
