YakenMax Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 I was looking for input on the. Best large or smallmouth bass lures in the spring. I'm not really sure what's the best and would like to know. Thank you Quote
JT Bagwell Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 Here are the 3 that have done me the best so far this spring. 1/2 ounce Bloody Shad Swim jig from Siebert Outdoors. Chatterbait with a 4" Yamamoto Swim Senko trailer. 1 ounce Siebert Outdoors Elite jig in the new 313 color with a Yamamoto Fat Baby Craw trailer. Quote
TC235 <*))))>< Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 Try the River2Sea Super Yabbie. Great lure for beds or just fliping and pitching docks, wood, etc... Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted May 22, 2013 Super User Posted May 22, 2013 Blade baits & hard jerkbaits work. Quote
YakenMax Posted May 23, 2013 Author Posted May 23, 2013 I heard to try flukes but I never get any hits Quote
MDP4BASS Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 There is really no "best" bait some things will just always work better than other IN CERTAIN SITUATIONS HOWEVER.... A few baits I know i will catch a fish on eventually in one day are: Weightless Gary Yamamoto Senko (pick color for your clarity of water fish very slow), Green Pumpkin and black Jig and craw or pork trailer (again fished slow but with short hops on the bottom), I have a lot of luck on Berkley Power Worms as well, If they are in the mood for top water i love buzzbaits and hollow body frogs, and finally for the smallmouth id tie on a 4" white grub 1 or twin tail Remember i dont know anything about the water you are fishing these are just baits i have found can produce just about all year long and in any water with the right color and presentation of course just try a few out the only way to find out if something works in your waters is to try it yourself GOOD LUCK AND TIGHT LINES-MDP Quote
Super User Marty Posted May 23, 2013 Super User Posted May 23, 2013 As MDP said, there is no "best." It's now late spring and a wide variety of lures will work. I've been using crankbaits but yesterday they were hitting Jitterbugs. That's not to say that these lures are superior, it's just that they work. No doubt other lures would have caught many of the same fish as well. Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted May 23, 2013 Super User Posted May 23, 2013 The best for me would be jigs, for the next guy something different. Alot depends on your location, water level, clarity, time of year, temp etc etc etc. most importantly it's what your confident in. Quote
Craiger12 Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 Short answer is a jig. I prefer a pork trailer in colder water. Quote
powerduster Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 I been having some good luck with squarebills and supershallow cranksbaits. The booyah top secret buzzbait has been pretty awesome too and jerkbaits like the matzuo phantom minnow and yo-zuri crystal 3d minnow. The bomber 15a is also becoming one of my favorites in the jerkbait lineup. Quote
BassAddict1911 Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 I have yet to go wrong with a junebug senko rigged wacky, last week caught a 3, 6 and 7lbr in one day ... my go-to bait Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted May 24, 2013 Super User Posted May 24, 2013 Been having pretty good luck with a fluke and a 1- minus. Quote

Question about your chatter swim, do you take the skirts off or keep them on and or does some other factor dictate that choice? OP for me it would be Jerkbait, Jig and DropShot in that order. Quote
BrianSnat Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 I like Senkos and Swim Senkos in the spring, and fall and summer.. Before the bass moved into the shallows I was doing OK with a drop shot rig. Quote
steverowbotham Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 It's different for everyone, it really comes down to a confidence thing. For me, I have 4 baits that I turn to early season (although our season doesnt open until the last Saturday in June). A craw (Imperium Minotauro or Chigger craw), a stick bait (Imperium Impact Stick), a tube (Imperium Prodigy) or a soft jerk shad (Imperium Ace) Quote

OP for me it would be Jerkbait, Jig and DropShot in that order. Sorry it took me a few days to respond. I leave the skirts on and just add the Swim Senko as a trailer. I don't have a picture of the combo but here is a picture of my Siebert Outdoors Bloody Shad Swim Jig with a Swim Senko on it for a trailer. You can see what it looks like without the blade on the bait. Quote
JayKumar Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 We really need more info. What type of lake are you fishing? Where in the country? Quote
JT Bagwell Posted June 3, 2013 Posted June 3, 2013 Jay, what have you been up to? Haven't heard anything out of you since the old BF days. I actually looked for you on Facebook a few months ago but now I see your link here, Good to see you are alive and kicking. JT Bagwell Quote
