Got another travel question for you all.  What's the policy as far as fishing lures and hooks on carry-on's?  I looked on the TSA website and they never really gave a definitive answer, just that "large hooks" needed to be sheathed, and small flies were ok.  That's mostly a worthless answer: I'd consider a saltwater hook for sharks as large, but they might think the hooks on my KVD square bill are "large".  Anybody have some knowledge about this?  Appreciate it ya'll

If I were you, I would either call them for verification or put them in a checked bag. I would hate to see them throw those nice KVD squarebills into the trash can.

I just flew on the 18th. Checked bag only. Can bring your reels as carry on and I had a few bags of soft plastics also.

Well that sounds like it settles it

When I flew on AirTran they designated hooks and lures with hooks as "dangerous" and therefore can be put in a checked bag but not in your carry on. I took all my reels in my carry on though and soft plastics are fine as well.

This might not help but what I do for tournaments sometimes is ship my TW order to the hotel or campground office etc.  That way I can have my bait there when I get there instead of waiting for it to be shipped home. Other wise I would check the bait in my luggage.

I go back and fourth to Texas with plastics and a few pounds of hooks/jigs in my personal/carry on bag.
Got tackle through Delta, United and US Air already.

I just flew Delta last week and carried on my tackle bag with all my worm hooks up to 6/0 and big swimbaits with large trebles like a Mattlures hardbass and other than scanning and digging through my bag a lot I didn't have any problems.

Well on the contrary, I have had problems with hooks in my carry on.  I have packed them in my checked baggage from then on!

Ditto the that expressed by the Moderator. I had one bad experience and now I always check them.
