Left Handed Casting Reel For..

Hello all I am looking for an broad technique reel for cranking and jerkbaits, I might also use it for a swimbait and spinner bait here and there.  Most lures used will be in the 3/8 ounce range or less.  I am not a proficient bait-caster, especially with light lures or windy days, so this model will need to account for that as I use allot of light lures.  I am looking at the 130-200$ range preferably closer to the 150 range.  It needs to be easy to maintain and work when I need it, I am not a fan of lews so lets keep these off the table for now.

I use leftys for everything! Both of my Curado G's as well as my upgraded (boca bearings/ supertuned) CItica D cast anything down to 1/4 oz just fine. The Citica is a pitching machine btw! I found the rod is really important when I try to throw a light bait on casting gear.

Revo STX. Awesome, awesome reel. The dual braking system lets you fine tune that sucker for any baits or conditions, and it's d**n near impossible to backlash once you set it up. It's fool proof.  MSRP is $199 but you can find them on Amazon for around $165.

2nd Generation Revo STX or Premier... You can still find very nice examples of both within your price range. A couple of other options would be the Lexa, or a Zillion if you can find one. They've been marked down to around $200 a few places. Out of the above, I'd go for the Premier.

Yes there is, crankbaits will be the primary use, the rod I want is for bait casters only.  Also my proficiency might be different then others so its easy to take out of context and what I mean by that if I birdsnest more then once during an 8 hour tourny I am a bit upset its really a confidence thing and the only way to beat that is to keep using it.   Plus my current setup while it works is rather old and I need another caster in my arsenal.

 

Thanks for all the replies, I was looking at the revos and the shimanos I need to get one in my hand to see how it feels, leaning more towards the curado.

I use a Daiwa Sol or Alphas for this.  My light cranking setup is a SC Avid AVC70MM, Sol, and 10# Tatsu.  Flings those little peanut cranks a mile.  I leave the brakes at 7-10, and spool is pretty loose.  I generally just have to touch the spool as the bait lands.  Windy days require a more trained thumb.

I've got a Daiwa Advantage 153HSTLA lefty in the flea market that would do the job well. I bought it for my wife as her first baitcaster and I found it to be a pretty easy reel for her to use despite her lack of experience

get a Quantum Energy PTiC Spinning Reel - $139.99 or Quantum Smoke PT Spinning Reel - $159.99. I only use spinning reels, 6 to 12 pound braid with fluorocarbon leader if water is clear. regardless of what people say or what you hear, spinning reels are better than baitcaster reels in everyway.

Personally, I have always found my Shimanos very forgiving when casting in windy conditions. Now to adjust the centrifugal weights under the cover to get the best results, but for some reason they cause me less issues than some of my other reels.
