I have just about decided on a Abu Garcia Veritas rod 7' Medium with fast action tip for my new Texas rig.  Now I need help with a new reel.  I was a loyal Shimano fan for years but have seen really good reviews on Abu Garcia REVO reels on here.  I'm looking for something in the range of 100-150$

You can't go wrong with a Lew's reel! Just a good quality reel at a great price!

Curado G/E whichever you can find in that price range in your favorite gear ratio.

This is a loaded question. It's like asking if you should buy a Ford or a Chevy. It will depend on who you ask. The reality is that most any reel in that price point will be pretty decent. I would suggest going down to a Bass Pro Shop or a place of that nature and try the different reels on your new rod. See what feels right. With that said, personally I am a Shimano guy. They are the only reels that have held up to the abuse I have put them through. As deep suggested I would go with a Curado 200 with the 6.5 gear ratio.

Lew's Tournament SS TS1-H, that's right at your 150 $ or less price point. Great great reel though. Just my opinion.

I just bought a Lew's Tournament Pro, I have not tested it yet.  I decided on it after it took me awhile to even find a review that was not great, and that review just said it was comparable to the REVOs.  My Brother has a Curado 201E7 which I have used quite a lot and it is a solid reel.  I am trying Lew's out.  I have an Abu Garcia Ambassadeur which I have never had a problem with but that does not seem to be what you are looking for.  My brother's Curado has been great and I have a ton of Shimano spinners and they are great.  If you want proven reliability go Shimano but you will pay for it.

BPS PQ, Shimano Citica, Abu Revo S, Daiwa Lexa, Lews Tournament. Or if you can find anything higher up used/on sale or whatever, that seems like a no brainer.

Despite my issues with the Revo S I still recommend it. Great light, smooth reel that casts a mile.

Citica G or Curado G are fine, you won't be wronged by either reel.  The other reel I'd recommend is the BPS Pro Qualifier.  If you upped your budget another 50, I'd highly recommend getting the Chronarch.  I think it would look pretty bad ass with your veritas.

Got my Chronarch on a Veritas and it does indeed look bad ass.

Revo S, Curado G or E if you can find one. Lews makes great reels and the Chronarch would work well also. You might even be able to find a Revo STX in that price range.

Lots of great reels out there in this price range.

Team Lew's Gold, a little more than you mentioned, I have 4 and paid between 165.00 and $175.00 for all of them, these are very very nice reels and will compare the top tier reels from others. If you want to keep it under $150.00 the Tournament Pro is lighter and hard to beat for around $125.00 street price. or for around $100.00-$110.00 there is the BB1 super casting reel and very smooth with a large line capacity as is the Super Duty but only has magnetic cast control, this is an excellent big bait reel in any speed you want. These reels have all performed much better than their price suggest!!! You just need to decide what brand you want, If you want to keep it all Abu,,,,,,go with the Revo, but trust me the Lew's are SWEEEEEEET reels!

I found a few Lews Tournament Pro 6:4:1 ration on Ebay with free shipping for right at 150$.  I think I'll slap that baby on a Abu Garcia Veritas 7'0 MH Fast tip and start yank some hogs out of the lake.........hopefully.  Better feel then my current setup by far.

I bought a tournament brand new for 92 bucks on the auction site!! Lews is the way to go man seriously

I just recently bought my first baitcaster, and I've read posts stating that for your first one buy a decent one. So after reading countless posts and reviews I went with a Lew's Tournament Pro. I got it off ebay for an awesome price of a $120! And like a lots of posts suggested, I put some 12lb. mono on it and practiced as I have never casted a baitcaster before. Last weekend I took it out on the lake and put a 1/2oz. lipless crankbait on and it was casting great!! I was amazed at how far I was casting without trying hard, and not one birdsnest!! But some of the others I considered before I bought the Lew's were the BPS Pro Qualifier, Shamano's Curado. The Revo's are a real nice reel also.

Here is a pict. of my Lew's TP on a *** *** Black 7"1" M rod!

I have a Veritas and the Revo S is a fantastic match.  I would reccomend that one for sure. I have the MH veritas and it is great for 3/8 oz jigs and bigger T Rigs like a 1/4 oz with a Brush hog.  Using my Revo S, it looks great and works better.
