Nice_Bass Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Just bought a couple of the packages yesterday and was both impressed and unimpressed, many times within the same cast. The Realism as it goes through the water is great, as a search bait it moves perfect at constant speeds. Add some jerks and you have a dying fish that even a vegetarian may think about eating if you put it in front of her. All in all, bait looks and acts great. Now for the disappointment. I must have had around 7 fish on, all large, in the hour that I was using it. Problem was the hook cannot get the penetration that is really needed to get the job done. The hook does not have room to bust out for a solid hook set. Tried a quick hook set, pulled it out of the fishes mouth, tried to let them take it down a bit more, pulled it out of their mouth. Very frustrating for such a good looking bait, although a perfect prefishing bait to find big fish but not catch them! Anyhow, anyone have these issues and have a decent solution? Like I said, with the size fish I saw coming out of structure to nab it, I really do not want to give this one up quite yet. Quote
D4u2s0t Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 are you using the pre-made hook slots? With the hooks that came in the package? If so, there should be zero issue with setting the hook, as it should come out quite easily. My main problem with them was the durability. I went through all 3 of them and caught 1 fish, and lost 1. Yes, using the provided hardware, durability was fine, all fish came off one, of course none fought for long considering I lost them all. It may have to do with the fact i was using all the provided weights to get as much distance as I could from the bait. May try removing all but two. Quote
frogflogger Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 I"ve been using them with 2 weights I think - whatever the pkged ones had on them. It took a bit of practice to get a good hook set. They are deadly on lake Okeechobee but I let them pull the rod a bit then set the hook and got most of them - I had better hookups with skinny dipper but more big fish strikes with the sebile - I think it takes practice but they are pretty expensive to learn on. I had some spectacular misses with this bait but also some hook-ups Quote
