Hey guys! Once again I come to you with my hate in my hand. I have fished most of my life, however, I am just now getting into some 'serious' fishing. As you guys know I joined the bass club with my father and I am REALLY enjoying it.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had a link or knows of a post that breaks down what fishing line to use in certain situations. I've read a lot about 'good' braid to use or 'which of this is the best'. The problem is, I don't know which to use as far as braid vs. mono vs. fluro on certain rods and conditions.

I won't lie, growing up.. I was taught that Texas Rig'n is the absolute gospel of catching largemouth on Lake Guntersville. Which is fairly true. I was raised using Stren 14lb Mono on all baitcasters for this application. Now that I am starting to broaden my arsenal into things like spinnerbaits, spooks, crankbaits, alabama rigs, jigs etc, does anyone have a chart or a post that shows which lines are best used for different applications?

I mean I've read where Seagaur or Power Pro is the best braid, and I don't mind going and buying any of it.... but I don't know when and when not to use it. I"ve always heard that you can't use braid Texas Rig'n because you lose a lot of the sensitivity....

So do you use braid when using a spinnerbait? Jigs? And naturally I understand that the more cover you're throwing into, the higher test you would need. So if I'm throwing into heavy cover, I need something with the AbrazX on it.... but what about spinnerbaits running over top of grass?

So much to learn! Any help is greatly appreciated!

youtube has a video from almost every major pro out there where they discuss what line they use and when and what types of baits also several other web sites have videos discussing the same. me I personally do not use braid on anything, if I need more or less test I just buy heavier or lighter  McCoy and have yet to break off anywhere. I do use floro for cranks because most of the video recommended it but again I only use McCoy. You will get a thousand answers for your question I would suggest watching the video and read the articles then make your own choice...

I sent you a PM with a link to a website that it would not allow me to post here. You will find that many people will have differing opinions to techniques, but I think what I just sent you is a great overview.

Most of the Elite pros use only braid (often with a fluoro leader) or fluoro now -- partly because they get free line (fluoro is expensive).  Mono still works just fine.  A basic rule of thumb is to use line that's strong enough for the cover and size of fish you are fishing for.  In other words, a crank might work great with 8-lb line, but if you're fishing it around deep wood for 6-lbers, get ready to lose some baits.  Braid will increase your sensitivity big-time, so it's great for bottom stuff like jigging and T-rigging.  Just know that depending on what you're using, spinning or casting, braids act differently so be prepared to experiment.  Hope that helps a little.

Unfortunately there is no right or wrong answer to this. My brother will only fish braid, my son will only fish braid. We really don't fish anywhere that requires braid. But that is what they feel confident in using.

Myself I use fluorocarbon for everything but top water and jerkbaits. But thats just my preference.

Everyones preference will be different.

There is no wrong or right answers to this unfortunately.

Hey junky can you send me a p.m with the link please? I'm always looking to read up and broaden my knowledge.

Each line has its strengths and weaknesses, I can tell you finding FC vendor that I like is hard and will advise you to stay away from the cheap FC from stren or berkley they do not perform.

Search for "bass fishin line guide" and you'll find a good, comprehensive and easy-to-understand resource that will help get you started. As always, though, that guide is only one fisherman's opinion, not a the end-all, be-all to fishing lines. Personally, I liked using braids when I first started bass fishing about two years ago because the increased sensitivity made it easier for me to detect strikes. Now that I have caught lots of fish on braid, I prefer to use fluorocarbon because I think that the increased invisibility makes bites more likely, and my eyes, hands and brain have now learned what different bites feel like, so I feel confident ditching the braid on several techniques. Still, I often like using braid main line with a fluoro or mono leader when I really want that increased sensitivity.

I should have clarified on my previous post, "Search the INTERNET for 'bass fishin line guide'", not the forums.
