Uncle Leo Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 I do not care for inserts, they tend to fray the line. These look as if little care was taken with the insert. :-/ Quote
-nick- Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 I do not care for inserts, they tend to fray the line. These look as if little care was taken with the insert. :-/ Is there any way to take out the insert? It does look pretty sloppy though. Quote
IwillChooseFreeWill Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 I do not see them listed on resellerratings.com so I would not trust them myself Quote

I do not know how they do it. Quote
Blue Streak Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 Inserts take away the sensitivity of tungsten which is one big reason they are prefered. And if they have inserts in them that probably means they are rough and will cut your line like a hacksaw. I would stay away from them. Bite the bullet and buy Tru Tungsten. Quote
FishnBen Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 Xcalibur tungsten weights have inserts and have never been hard on my line. I thought inserts were supposed to keep the tungsten from damaging your line anyway...? Quote
Kowen117 Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 I can't see that tungsten is THAT much better at almost a dollar a pop no way ill stick with lead Inserts take away the sensitivity of tungsten which is one big reason they are prefered. 21farms Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 I do not see them listed on resellerratings.com so I would not trust them myself they do business on ebay as "bigfishinbuddy" and have a 100% positive feedback rating. i'd have no qualms doing business with them. Quote
Blue Streak Posted February 25, 2010 Posted February 25, 2010 Xcalibur tungsten weights have inserts and have never been hard on my line. I thought inserts were supposed to keep the tungsten from damaging your line anyway...? They do, that is exactly what they are for. But they take away the biggest advantage of tungsten and that is the sensitivity. If tungsten was not so much more sensitive that lead I would not buy them at all. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted February 25, 2010 Super User Posted February 25, 2010 I have used the excaliber weights w/ the insert and the TT without. Sensitivity loss w/ the insert is a non factor, I couldn't tell any differance. Braid/Fluoro, or even on my higher end rods, just didn't feel it.I have been buying TT exclusivly because of the paint jobs, not the insert. I 'll give those weights a try. Quote
wisconsin heat Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 some weights are listed as $0.00 is that a mistake?? Quote

Blake R. Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Legit. Placed my first order Sunday, got them yesterday. Have not got to use them yet. Quote
soccplayer07 Posted February 26, 2010 Author Posted February 26, 2010 thanks for telling us about the site on Sunday. good looking out! Quote
Shadcranker Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 The owner is a personal freind of mine, and one of my fishing partners. Dwayne is as honest as the day is long. This is a part time gig for him. He got tired of paying thru the nose for tungsten and found a source of quality inexpensive weights. he's not trying to get rich off of it. Really good guy. Quote

Tungsten weights with inserts feel as dead as lead weights. Quote

Im with you i like the Excalibur b/c they make a barrel sinker and they are a little cheaper also. Can buy two one ounce for the price of one tru tungsten bullet one ounce. The barrel weight is awesome for a crig and i have no issues with sensitivity.. and i know many people who have ordered from that website all with good experiences Quote
egolfer Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Anybody have any experience with this company. There prices look great. http://www.alleystungsten.com/Place_Order.html I order some of these a few weeks ago. I ordered Wednesday morning and they were at my house by Thursday afternoon. Great service and quality. Quote
justbassintime Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 i find it funny reading some of these post, how we as fishermen and hunters, are so picky about or products we buy, talking about how we don't want inserts and how they are no as sensitive. and so on. what did fisherman and hunters do 20-80 years ago with just lead and other out ove date products. kind of like cave men ??????????????????? ;D Quote
tnbassfisher Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 Sorry to take away from this thread with another question, but how do you typically determine what size weight to use? I have a few different sizes that I like to use, but I always have a hard time deciding on which. Quote
Blue Streak Posted March 1, 2010 Posted March 1, 2010 I use the lightest I can for the conditions I am fishing, wind has a lot to do with that.I think soft baits are best when their action is not impeded. Of course I go heavier if I am fishing deep. Quote

It is HANDS down, THAT much better. Definitely more sensitive, and smaller. Well worth it. A 1oz Lead weight is a MONSTER and if you fish weeds is 10 times harder to get into. Give it a try Quote
