jrsmith_80 Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 First off, I don't want to sound like a whinny high school girl, LOL!! I am having a heck of a time catching fish this year. I'm curious if it has anything to do with the crazy spring we've had here in Kansas or if its me. I'm almost sure the spawn has started here in Central Kansas, but you wouldn't think so as slow as the fishing has been for me. I spent six hours on the water Saturday with a buddy and we could throw the same lure at the same spot and he would catch a fish and I would come up empty handed every time. I have not changed one thing from previous years except for my fishing line. Is anyone else havin trouble catching fish this spring?? I've thrown everything at these fish that I can think of and still come up empty handed. I've taken a few weekends and still nothing. Any words of wisdom from my fellow fisherman?? Quote
Super User WRB Posted May 20, 2013 Super User Posted May 20, 2013 Fish what your buddy fishes, it's working for him! Bass have their own calendar, you can't go by what worked last year in May. Spend more time locating the bass, then figure out what they want, your buddy seems to know. Tom 1 Quote
gramps50 Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 I would try trading rods with my buddy for a little while and see what happens. Maybe his presentation is different than yours. If he catches fish on your rod that is the direction I would lean. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted May 20, 2013 Super User Posted May 20, 2013 If all else fails, slow down your techique Quote
The Commodore Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Yeah I have found that slowing things down to a crawl will finally get one to bite. Quote
Super User deep Posted May 20, 2013 Super User Posted May 20, 2013 Are you fishing behind your friend jrsmith? In that case, you may want to consider a similar but different bait. or maybe a more finesse approach; to pick up the fish that didn't bite his bait. Quote
BigBassBarry Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 I live in Oklahoma, water temp is now in the low to mid 70s on lakes. the fish have spawned but the spawn was messed up because of the up and down temps. It is very difficult for me to catch fish right now. The bite is very poor. Good luck to you. Quote

If you are using the same bait, it's probably the technique that is your issue, you may want to pay attention to what he or she is doing differently than you, it could be as small as the bait entry to the water, take a moment and step back and learn what he or she is doing that you are not. Frustration is a key to let you know that things need to change, it makes you loose focus on what really matters most, concentrate and slow down, unloading your tackle box says that you have lost that focus, pay attention to your surroundings and adjust accordingly.
