Without getting into complicated rigs, what are some of the best baits and techniques to catch Walleye?  My lake which is chalk full of Bass, has a smaller % of Walleye in it but my friend caught a 25 incher last night just fishing with a Senko.  These Walleye are kinda rare to catch but what should I be doing to catch them more often?  I heard Jigging works well but are there "walleye jigs?"  Or can I just use my Skirted bass jigs?  What else should I be throwing at them? Do they bite more after dark?  I've seen two walleye caught on my lake this year and both were about 20 minutes-45 minutes after it got dark.  Any help would be awesome!!!!  Thanks!

Walleye will hang out in deeper water during the day and come into the shallows at night. At night, jerk baits worked in the shallows are a great way to  catch them. During the daytime using a bottom bouncer or a lindy rig will produce fish. Walleye are great eating fish and a lot of fun to catch. They do tend to school up during the day and will usually be right on the bottom so if you hook into one during the day keep working the area because he will probably have friends with him.

If you want simple, as you been told work the bottom, spring a jig tipped with a minnow, slow worked on the bottom or as it gets into late spring early summer,  a crawler harness as CoBass stated in deeper water and on the bottom. at noght the jerk baits in shallows, don't get much simpler than that.

CoBass is spot on IMO.

I've personally only ever caught walleye at dusk/dark but I understand they can be caught throughout the day on jigs. I catch walleye at one of the finger lakes often on jerkbaits in holographic colors of clown and ghost shad.

A friend of mine has been slamming them on P-Line lures, I've not tried these personally yet.

Anything a bass would eat a walleye will eat.  It's about location and time.  My favorite setups are jigs (plain ole ball head & curly tail, bucktail/hair jigs), dropshot rigs and pulling/casting cranks.  Live bait on bottom bouncers, lindy rigs, jigs, etc. work great too but I get lots of little cigars when I do that.  Still a great option when the bite gets though.  I've caught plenty on senkos and other "bass lures" by accident.

Casting a #7 shad rap or flicker shad or casting or jigging a 3" Gulp minnow on an 1/8oz jighead are 2 of my favorite ways to fish for walleye.
