I just started bass fishing last summer, I caught a couple here and there and have been hooked ever since! I fish the creeks with a lot of cover. I have been using the broken back rebel, thats what I call it at least. Its really a crankbait made by rapala (jointed together and its the silver verison) looks like a minnow and dives about 2 feet and have caught many. But I want some top water crankbaits and also a good diver to fish the center of the creek. And some buzz and spinner baits.  If you know of any please let me know I fish for largemouth bass only.

Please specify what color and make etc of the lure (link would be even more excellent!)

Thanks,

Blake

May not be on your list, but you can't go wrong with a 1/2oz chrome/blue or chrome/black Rat-l-trap. It's a great go-to lure!

For topwater I like the Rapala skitterpop.  For deeper water why not consider plastics? A Texas rig Senko or Yum. No weight needed if you're in shallow water, 5 feet deep or so.  Or try a slip sinker Texas rig or Carolina rig plastic if in deeper water.

Buzzbaits- Cavitron (black, White)

Spinnerbaits- War Eagle (Herring, White and Chartreuse)

Shallow Crankbait - Jackall MR 60 and Lucky Craft .5/1.5

Hope this helps

Blake, it would be helpful if you added your location or state to your avatar as we need to know where you live to give you the best assistance possible.

Also read, read and read the articles on this site plus use the "search" feature in the upper right hand corner to find specific material you wish to review.

If your creek has lots of vegetation may I suggest the following:

Top waters -

1.  Weedless pink trick worm fished on 6 pound mono on a spinning rig. Change colors to find out which color they like most.

2.  Any shallow running crankbaits like the Manns Minus One. Fish on baitcaster and when you get a hit swing rod from right to left or left to right when setting the hook.  Do not allow any slack in the line or bass with throw the crankbait.

3.  Pop-Rs, Zara Spooks, Sammy's and other topwaters.

Good Diver - Remember, if you pull the crank back to you from the deep part of the creek you will get hung up.  But you may want to test the waters by throwing a Bandit 100, then a Bandit 200 and then a Bandit 300 to see how they perform and which one is best.

Buzzbait - Cavitrons are the best. Go with the 1/4 ounce black ones and add a trailer hook. If you do not have a Cavitron throw any small buzzbait, working up to the larger sizes depending on what the bass are hitting.

Spinnerbaits - Start small and then go up in size. Try an inexpensive white one with a trailer hook thrown on a baitcaster or spinning rig. Don't be too concerned about the blades as you will learn about them as you get more experience and you read the articles on this site.

Other Suggestions - Search the web for the various pros web sites and read what they have to say about specific baits, techniques, etc. Do the same for specific baits such as Strike King and Berkley.

Throw a Senko or Zoom plastic worm over and through the grass. Fish them wacky or Texas style but be sure to use a weedless hook.

Frogs and rats can work but you need a very heavy rod and a lot of patience so read about frog fishing on various web sites and this forum.

We are here to help but asking us to solve your specific problem does not work as all of the 10,000+ guys and gals will give you different information and you will end up in a mental institution.

Good luck and let us know what works.  ;)

I just found a topwater crank I really like. The Rick Clunn wake action by lucky craft in tomato shad. I've been doing really well on it.

I've had similar luck with any of the quality spinerbaits available... but mostly buy either strike king or booyah.  which bait you use depends on the conditions...  are you burning the bait, slow rolling the bottom, want a lot of flash, want alot of noise?  It's hard to just pick one, and you should have an assortment (you don't have to go crazy) of baits depending on the conditions.

King Bass Fisher, Welcome to Bass Resource.

The guys who posted above gave you some really good lures to choose from. I am bias with my lure choices, and chose a lower priced lure in compairison to some who choose Lucky Craft.

If you are fishing a creek with alot of cover I'm assuming the water is probobly muddy which would lead you to a chartruse color.

I would take Sam's suggestion and purchase a couple of different Manns Baby -1 as they are an amazing lure. Again if the water is muddy go with a brighter color.

Ya I agree its pricey but if you think how long a crankbait can last compared to another lure like a soft plastic in the long run I would say there way cheaper. Granted if you get I snagged its prob time to go swimming.

I like using Storm Wild Eye Swim Shad in shad and baby bass colors.

We've had really good luck on those baits this year as well.

Prepare to fend off the bait monkey. For a topwater lure I always recommend a Pop-R. Very easy to use, been catching bass on it a long time. Good Luck!

Lately a texas rigged watermelon senko is producing well for me. 7-8 quality bass in a few hours.

Lucky Craft LC pointer in perch is also money. (literally at $15 but it works.) Northern Pike love this lure as well...
