toddwchandler Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 I have accumulated quite a bit of soft plastics (Senkos, Zoom Trick Worms, Horny Toads, Salamanders). I have been keeping all of these in the original bag, but they are starting to take up a lot of space in the tackle box. Is it OK to just take two or three of each kind of plastic and put them right into a slot in the tackle box? Will they dry out and crack or melt or something if they are not stored in the original or a ziplock bag? Quote
Super User eyedabassman Posted May 19, 2013 Super User Posted May 19, 2013 You can do that, but I like to keep them in there bags! They will last longer, and if you put a number of colors in one compartment they may bleed colors onto other worms. Quote
Super User Sam Posted May 19, 2013 Super User Posted May 19, 2013 Yep. Just keep them separate in case the "bleed" their colors. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted May 19, 2013 Super User Posted May 19, 2013 I keep mine in plano boxes. Some have been in there for several years with no problems but keep the colors seperate. Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted May 19, 2013 Super User Posted May 19, 2013 I try and keep them in the bags. They won't totally dry out, but will loose their scent over time. I just take what I plan on using that trip and put them in my bag. I leave the rest at home or in the truck Quote
Traveler2586 Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 There was another thread on this subject that may help you. http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/117093-soft-plastic-organization-tips/ Quote
BrianSnat Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 Funny this just came up. I keep my plastics in their original bag and they were beginning to overflow my tackle box. Last week I found a cheap zipper portfolio bag and it fits all of my plastics. Only problem is remembering to bring it along. My first outing after separating my plastics with the main tackle box I opened the box only to realized I had left the plastics home. Fortunately I had a few used ones sitting in the trays, enough to last the evening, though the variety wasn't there. So now I have the plastics bag clipped to the handle of my tackle box with a carabiner so I don't I don't forget it again. Quote
Skeeter Driver Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 My wife helped me on this one .... She gave me a large food saver container that I use at he end of the year. I put all my plastics in it, then use her food saver machine to remove the air. I have some worms that are now 4 years old ... Preserved using this method. Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted May 19, 2013 Super User Posted May 19, 2013 I hate leaving baits in bags unless I have to due to the material. I like having plano boxes with sizes labeled under the deck so I can open it up and have everything ready and available. I've never had an issues with losing color or bleeding as long as they are kept separated. Quote
HuskyKMA Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 You can put them in their own compartments if you want. I like to keep them in their bags. If you're on a boat I find it nice to keep all of the bags in some kind of Tupperware or Rubbermaid containers, the flat 6" deep ones so that it is easy to organize them. Quote
Super User eyedabassman Posted May 20, 2013 Super User Posted May 20, 2013 Zoom baits are good for bleeding! And I have come up with some cool colors!!!! Quote
Basseditor Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 I keep my plastics in the original bags and put the bags by bait type in those 99 cent mesh laundry bags from Walmart. All the mesh bags go in a small soft-sided duffle bag. For example, Senkos in one bag, flukes in another etc. but scented baits like power worms go in the water proof Plano boxes. Again, I keep them in the original bags. I like the sealed boxes because sometimes the zip lock doesn't seal tight. Quote

I have several Plano boxes that I carry in my tackle box and re-stock them as necessary. The original packages are kept in a big plastic tub in my shop. Tom Quote
