Smallieslayer2234 Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 I bought one today but have never ever frog fished...and I don't have any lakes that I fish that are very grassy....do you know any other way I could use these to gain more confidence....also my lakes have SUPER high pressure Quote
Koofy Smacker Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 Throw it around any lillies/reeds or grass. Sometimes around heavily wooded areas. If its very highly pressured your best shot will be at dusk and dawn and then after dark as well Quote
mjseverson24 Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 hmm... high pressure usually calls for either deeper water and or finesse presentations, but I agree dusk and dawn are probabily your best times. the sexy frog in my opinion is the most effective hollow body frog on the market, maybe not the most durable, but the best fish catcher. As one who has fished frogs, but not that brand, what, in your opinion, does it have over the other brands to make it more effective? Quote
PondBoss Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 The only thing that I can tell immediately different KVD frog is that it has a couple of rattles in it. I have used it as well as several other brands. I have not noticed any improved "fish catches" over other brands. Personally I typically will use the H2O Xpress model because of cost. It's $2-$3 less and catches just as many fish. As for how to use your frog, if fishing from the bank I'd recommend casting parallel to the bank as shallow as you can. Don't be afraid to throw it on the bank and bring it off. I find I get a lot of hits when I do this. Fish it early and late from 5 feet off the bank and in. Quote
gobig Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 You dont need to have grass for a frog to be effective. You can fish them in open water. Being that the lake you fish has alot of pressure your frog may be more productive than you think. Most people wont think to throw one there. 1 Quote
Super User Grizzn N Bassin Posted May 19, 2013 Super User Posted May 19, 2013 I've done pretty good on frogs I got 10 bass on frogs yesterday.. I like throwing around. Lilys and over scum spots. Open water early am b4 sunrise has also produced well Quote
mjseverson24 Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 As one who has fished frogs, but not that brand, what, in your opinion, does it have over the other brands to make it more effective? Marty I have fished many different brands of frogs including snag proof, boo-ya, koppers, spro, scum frog, and the SK frogs. what sets these frogs appart for me is the size of the hooks, which are a little larger than most of the other brands, next is the softness of the body, it really allows for a better hookup ratio. the color patterns are good, and the installed rattles also give then a little edge. I do like other brands frogs as well my box has probabily 10 kvd frogs 5 spro popping frogs 5 pad crashers. the kvd frogs only come in one size so that is where the other brands help fill in the gaps, but for full size walking style frogs I go with the kvd. That being said they are a little less durable than I would like, but they usually last 20-25 fish before it is time for retirement. Mitch Quote
