TNBassin' Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 Deeps right. Evens are rightys and odds are lefties. The 7 is a burner, 6 med and 5 for cranking. Your a south paw correct? I'f so it would be 201E6 Yeah the 201e6 is the one I was looking at. Is the casting distance really leaps and bounds ahead of the Revos??? Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted May 18, 2013 Author Super User Posted May 18, 2013 Yeah the 201e6 is the one I was looking at. Is the casting distance really leaps and bounds ahead of the Revos??? I'm not gonna say it makes the Revo look like a Walmart 3.99 special, but I noticed a decent amount of distance over my S. it's much quieter than the S too. No annoying racket when you cast a lure. Getting to the breaks was eaiser, the side plate never falls off. Less play in the handle over the S too. Cleaning was eaiser to me. Only two bearings compared to the revos 3. When you feel the 50E's size and weight it blows the S away. Quote
Super User MarkH024 Posted May 18, 2013 Super User Posted May 18, 2013 I have one 50e but I'll invest in more. I have the 200e5 for cranking too. They are great, smooth, and easy to use. Quote
CountBassula Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 Yeah the 201e6 is the one I was looking at. Is the casting distance really leaps and bounds ahead of the Revos???  chronarch was my 3rd shimano reel I got (after citica and curado), and out of the box, on a 14# pline, a swim super fluke with a 1/8oz weight will cast 40-50 yards without breaking a sweat with 3 breaks and spool tension set properly, from a 6'8" MH/F Crucial rod. I can't imagine anything in the known universe casting better... then again, i never tried other brands :-D chronarch 200E6 I have is extremely smooth and tight! there's absolutely zero slack and zero wiggle anywhere on that thing. it's just darn solid! War Eagle 44 Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 Yeah the 201e6 is the one I was looking at. Is the casting distance really leaps and bounds ahead of the Revos??? I'm a huge Shimano guy but I will tell you that they have a habit of greasing their spool bearings from the factory and this really cuts into the distance the reels are capable of. A simple flush with lighter fluid takes care of this but I know there are lots of people who think you shouldn't have to "work" on a brand new reel in order for it to fish up to its capabilities. Other than this the E series reels from Shimano are fantastic.  Quote
OK Bass Hunter Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 Oh wow, Rockchalk you switched to Shimano, I thought you were gonna be a Revo man to the end. Quote
Super User rockchalk06 Posted May 18, 2013 Author Super User Posted May 18, 2013 Oh wow, Rockchalk you switched to Shimano, I thought you were gonna be a Revo man to the end. I got sick of repeat trips to Bass Pro, Academy and Pure Fishing. The first one was a Curado G that I have ran hard for 6 months now without one single hitch! Quote
thehooligan Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 Glad your liking shimano reels rockchalk, il never part with my curado and core 51e's.   Ive tried a crapload of reels out these past two years and ive got it down to shimano and daiwa Quote
fishking247 Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 i'm a die hard shimano guy. the only complaint i have is with their spinning reels. they tend to bind up during a heavy rain, even after the rain stops once the reel is wet is seems to bind up until it dries out.  my other complaint with other reel manufacturers is most of them do not come with the little "shims" to adjust line lay. I can't tell you how many spinning reels i had bought before i was a die hard shimano guy and had the line bunch up toward the bottom or top. even the daiwa ss which is supposed to have superior line lay i had this issue with. i bought two of them and one spooled line fine and they other spooled line like crap. with today's technology you think most reel manufacturers would have the whole line lay thing sorted out by now  i'm a shimano guy for now until something changes Quote

Stradic fj's are bulletproof, and you can practically submerge a ci4 underwater and that thing will still be as smooth as the day you bought it, lol, Quote

I'm glad I'm not the only one that's ever had it bind after being wet. BUT at the same time, I casted that very Sahara into the lake last week after hooking it with my other rod during a cast LOL. After that dunking though, I couldn't explain why it felt smoother afterwards!  In the end though, I still think Daiwa's are better in the spinning department. In the casting department though, All shimano for me from now on! That metanium is smooth~ Quote
derekxec Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 lol when i drop my trinidads in the sand they get a dunk in the saltwater to clean them off and then everything feels like butter again haha Quote
Super User Sam Posted May 19, 2013 Super User Posted May 19, 2013 Rockchaulk, great post! Great questions. Â The guys have given you some outstanding information. Isn't this Forum great or what? Â I know you follow college basketball and I am going to turn the clock back to the late 60's and Pistol Pete Maravich of LSU. He is the guy who still holds the NCAA scoring record that he set before the three-point shot was invented. Â Pistol Pete would not change his socks all season. They were his luck socks. The would be floppy around his ankels but he never would wash them. Â This means that certain brands are favored by people. They will not change brands for their entire life. Same is true for us Shimano guys. We will buy the Shimano reels and rods no matter the cost as we have total faith in them. Â The Pistol had faith that his floppy socks would bring him luck. My Shimano's will bring me nice bass without failure. Â The socks are still working as no one has broken his NCAA scoring record. 1 Quote
TNBassin' Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 It's in my cart on BPS.com, but I've yet to pull the trigger. Trying to find justification for the purchase, but my Revos are performing great now. Plus I don't have a rod to throw it on. Hmmm... Quote

I hate nothing more than to have equipment I worked hard for go belly up. What about that kid from Grinnell Jack Taylor that hit 138 last year? Or are you talking before the 3 point shots? Quote

Super User Sam Posted May 19, 2013 Super User Posted May 19, 2013 Before the three-point shots.  I think Pistol's average is around 44 points a game.  Check him out on YouTube.  Greatest college guard in the history of the game.  When LSU played Southern in a practice game the Southhern coach was said to walk up and down the sidelines mumbling "And he is white. And he is white."  Check him out and see what he could do with a basketball.  Both his dad (Press Maravich) and Pete have passed away but Pete's legend will never be matched.  Now go out and buy some more Shimano reels!!!!! 1 Quote

Super User Sam Posted May 19, 2013 Super User Posted May 19, 2013 Rockchaulk, if we could fish like the Pistol played basketball we would all be famous.  Check out these old highlights and get Pete's Homework Basketball as you will enjoy the drills.   And remember you can't have enough Shimano rods and reels! TNBassin' Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 I don't know if it's fate, or Abu's bad qc, but my S has developed an issue with the brakes and is going back to bps. The pitch brakes always engage themselves on every cast and it's killing my distance. I have a buddy who's mom is a lead associate there and she is gonna let me return it. If they will let me, I may be coming home with a chronarch. MAY. Quote
